President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday announced that Chris Wright would be the Secretary of Energy under his administration.

"Chris has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in Energy," Trump said in an emailed statement. "He has worked in Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal, and Oil and Gas. Most significantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American Shale Revolution that fueled American Energy Independence, and transformed the Global Energy Markets and Geopolitics."

Trump stated that Wright would also serve on the newly formed Council of National Energy.

"The Council of National Energy will consist of all Departments and Agencies involved in the permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, transportation, of ALL forms of American Energy," Trump's statement continued.

Hmm...well, for starters, he is a founder (and presumably part owner) of a company that handles 20% of the fracking in the country. Conflict of interest much? I can see red lights and alarms flashing already.
He denies there's a climate crisis--but of course he is a mechanical and electrical engineer, not a meteorologist or climatologist, and apparently he has no evidence to prove his unfounded belief.
But I'm not going to worry about it--just wait for the inevitable catastrophes and disasters and be glad I live in the middle of the country, far away from rivers, with a little bit of woods but no forest, on a high hill that would make a tornado unlikely. For the sake of my relatives in Florida, I hope it only takes one or two catastrophes to wake America up.
And I am used to the previous Trump Administration ignoring the experts--that's why I have had four COVID vaccines and avoided crowds in the pandemic.
I'm sure energy stocks will get a big pop at first. I've thought about investing in Exxon which has rights to the huge lithium deposits in our state so that I'd be buffered till the green energy, the part I'm most interested in, takes over.
Collins and Murkowski seem inclined to vote "no" on candidates with alarming conflicts of interest like this one. I hope there is one more courageous, independent, honest voice along Senate Republicans.

We’re already the largest producer of petroleum.
While the “break-even” price fluctuates between grades and sources of oil ~$30-$70 (with existing wells being on the lower end), they’re not going to produce “too much” and crater their own industry.
While that is true, it is simply cheaper and more profitable to import heavy oil to refine into finished products and to export the light sweet crude at higher prices. Biden held up many leases and revoked a key permit for the Keystone XL pipeline.

I hope we are prepared when that heavy crude stops or is disrupted, and we can refine enough light oil to maintain our standard of living. The drill baby drill mantra is a deception in today's economy because we are headed toward a global recession, and demand is in the tanks, especially in China. The reason the Saudis had been reducing prices.

I agree that we need pipelines from Canada including Mexico, just in case and one of those pipes can fill our precious SPR.

So now Republicans will have nothing to whine about and no one else to blame for the disasters they stumble into.
