President-elect Donald Trump is standing by his decision to nominate Fox News personality Pete Hegseth to serve as secretary of defense amid concerns that an alleged drinking habit might impact his ability to do the job.

Trump took to Truth Social on Friday to declare that “Pete Hegseth is doing very well,” insisting that “His support is strong and deep, much more so than Fake News would have you believe.” The president-elect’s remarks come after NBC News published an article Tuesday citing concerns from 10 current and former Fox News colleagues, all anonymous, about Hegseth’s alleged alcoholism.

Unnamed colleagues of Hegseth told NBC News that they smelled alcohol on the “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host as he was about to go on air and reported hearing him talk about being hungover. Additional claims in the NBC News article insisted that Hegseth would show up 20 minutes before the show was set to go on air and would frequently need phone calls to make sure he was awake because his co-workers knew he would have been out late partying and drinking the night before.

Army of 100 Navy SEALs Preparing to March on DC to Stop Lynching of Pete Hegseth - Report

When it comes to Defense Secretary-nominee Pete Hegseth, Republican senators could soon be hearing from some of the men who actually matter.

Since President-elect Donald Trump nominated the combat veteran to lead the nation's military, attacks from liberal media organizations have grown even as Hegseth's friends and colleagues have rallied to his defense.

But now, Fox News' Will Cain declared Wednesday, some of those who've made military service their lives' work are going to make their voices heard, and Republicans weak on Hegseth better be listening.

"Over 100 Navy SEALs have organized and committed to march on Washington, D.C.," Cain said on his "The Will Cain Show" podcast.

"Over 100 Navy SEALs are prepared to throw their support openly behind Pete Hegseth," Cain said.

Then he named the target audience -- very specifically: GOP senators who could break with Trump to oppose Hegseth's confirmation.

I wonder just what makes him qualified to be Secretary of Defence?
Well it is a civilian position and he is a civilian - that also has military experience.

Is it the bronze metal or the time spent in the military or ? "he served as an infantry platoon leader and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal"

"Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, Iraq, where he served first as an infantry platoon leader and later as civil-military operations officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal."

All of which means little when it comes to running the military complex.

He has no DOD experience and he had to resign as President of the veterans organizations which he ran.

I don't see anything which qualifies him for the position. He does a BA from Princeton in Politics, so he is undoubtedly intelligent.
