The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too," Mr. Trump said. "We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings — level it out. Create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area. Do a real job. Do something different."

Asked who would eventually live in Gaza once it's rebuilt, Mr. Trump said it should be an international place.

"I envision world people living there, the world's people," he said, adding that the residents should be "representatives from all over the world, Palestinians, also." He said it would be "the Riviera of the Middle East."

I honestly think he's making this stuff up as he goes. The rest of his coterie are right now tearing around like headless chooks running defence on this, trying to jam it into some sort of shape that could be considered some sort of a concept of a plan. From the link:

'The president was asked by a reporter what authority he has to take over a sovereign territory, and he replied that he's studied the matter closely for months.

"I do see a long-term ownership position, and I see it bringing great stability to that part of the Middle East, and maybe the entire Middle East," Mr. Trump said.'

In other words, he has absolutely no idea. And who is going to live there?

'"I envision world people living there, the world's people," he said'

Oh, my word...All together:

I'd like to build a world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow white turtle doves
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
And keep it company
I'd like to see the world for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
For peace throughout the land

...and now our armed forces gets to clear a war zone littered with unexploded ordinance our taxes dollars paid for....

How does that line up with MAGA priorities?

I would love to know what they were thinking as he talked....and the Israeli PM must have been quietly amused.

Think of it as an American oasis... A satellite state... And it's brilliant too, because inviting people from all over the world is the OPPOSITE of ethnic cleansing. It's ethnic dilution. :)

trump is trying so hard to turn the entire world against the US.
Yes, the people who hate freedom, like Iran, and ISIS, are going to hate the US. They won't be able to accomplish their goals anymore.

...Because if it's going to be owned by the United States, it has to be a free country, based on capitalist ideas.

I envision something similar to Las Vegas in the Middle East.

Hey, another option... A destination for hard working, healthy deportees from America, if their own countries refuse to take them back.

...Give the area a little Spanish flare.

...Another thought - Israelis are not poor, they have money. So, if you want to own a business, but it's too expensive in Israel, you can start your business in ex-Gaza. Maybe the US and Israel can consider a joint owned High speed rail line connecting the two countries, as time goes by.

What should eventually happen with Gaza, is up for debate. What we do know is that the current situation is not working. Considering creative alternatives seems like a good idea, maybe there is something that can be done.

I don't think letting rich americans that just want to do it for profit and don't care about anyone is a good idea though.

Is Mexico going to be paying for any of these walls?

Israel would be happy to have an American territory, right “next-door”, you think!?
Okay.

If this is what I think it is ... this may be one of Trump's most brilliant moves, something Netanyahu or any of the Israeli lobby were expecting. Israel intentionally bombed Gaza to the point of making it uninhabitable for Palestinians so that they could seize it for themselves. There's no way Palestinians can move back there now and Israel expects Trump to now let the Israelis move in. But Trump, to everyone's surprise, announces that the USA will take ownership of Gaza (and its Israeli coveted offshore resources), and will move in the US military to help rebuild a better than ever Gaza, with the help of investors from all over the world, and establish a permanent US military base and presence in Gaza. He offers to work with the surrounding Arab nations to resettle the displaced Palestinians. Now if Israel still wants Gaza they'll have to take it from the USA, (their ally) not weak Palestinians. So the war is now over, Hamas is now over and the border comes down. Gaza is now owned by the USA as an international attraction. Brilliant!

I envision something similar to Las Vegas in the Middle East.
The new Dubai.

In the desert like Las Vegas, along the shoreline like Atlantic City. That area being transformed into a commercial real estate co-op venture would finally put an end to the unremitting territorial hostility that's gone on there for decades. This type of transformation would turn the Gaza Strip into a neutral buffer zone.

As for so-called "ethnic cleansing" there are and always have been a large population of Palestinians living in Israel. Israel is full of mosques and major Islamic holy places like The Dome of the Rock.

There's no reason why Palestinians can't live in Gaza or most anywhere in the Middle-East or most anywhere in the whole world. Palestine is a region, not a race. And Palestine covers a much larger area than just Gaza.
