Actually it's even worse! Wednesday Afternoon before vespers (if your Church has them that evening) is the last time you can say it (at least, liturgically speaking)

Well, technically, that is the beginning of Thursday...:(

We can say Christ has ascended instead :)
It is the feast day of our church which unfortunately means that the vultures have already begun gathering and setting up stalls to sell cheap toys and other stuff. I'd be sooo much happier if they weren't there with all the noise their little petrol generators are producing in the evening. Ugh :(

Well, then, I guess I'll just have to use this more often in the next few days, won't I?

Hristos Voskrese!
Christ is Risen!
Christos Anesti!

XB!
-Philip.

p.s. Wait a minute. Just because we can't use it liturgically doesn't mean we can't use it at all! St. Seraphim used that greeting all year round, even during Great Lent!

Our bulletin mentioned that yesterday was the last day we sang the "Shine, Shine....Be Radiant" song. I just love it.

What is the name of that hymn, and does anyone know if it's available on a CD?

Christ Is Risen!
The song is called, "The Angel Cried". One of my favorites as well. I'm sure it is available on CD somewhere.
In Xp,
Eusebios.

So...you don't get to do that all year long? I first started going on Pascha, so I just always thought that "Christ is risen!" was part of the normal liturgy. :(

So after this week, we don't all line up at the end of the service, get a little piece of bread from the preist, while he says "Christos Anesti!" ? I was growing rather fond of that...

Does everyone still get to sing "Christ is risen from the tomb; by death He has trampled down death, and to those in the tomb restoring life" (wording may not be quite correct)? That was my favorite song!

Christos Anesti!

Well, St. Seraphim of Sarov used the Paschal greeting all year round, but for the rest of us, no, we stop saying "Christ is risen - Indeed He is risen" and replace it with "Christ is in our midst - He is and ever shall be" and stop singing "Christ is risen from the dead...".

I started attending during Pascha last year. I didn't know this either, so when we stopped singing "Christ is Risen..." and the greeting changed I was so confused! and rather perturbed! "Christ is Risen" is my favorite too.

So, how do you say that in Greek?

I don't really know anything about the church calendar; what do you do for Pentecost and Ascension? Is there an extra service or something? If so, when is it, and should I go?

For both, you really just have the liturgy, though for Pentecost there is also Vespers of Pentecost, held that evening, also known as Kneeling Vespers, where they say a bunch of prayers about the descent of the Holy Spirit while everybody kneels. Vespers of Pentecost would be Sunday evening or late afternoon, you should go.
