- It was crafty.
- It could speak.
- It tempted Eve.
- It deceived Eve.
John connected the serpent with Satan in Revelation 20:
The satan possessed the serpent/snake to speak to Eve.2 He laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.
See How Snakes Lost Their Legs.
Why did God curse it?
Genesis 3:
There is a good chance that that ancient serpent embodied the person of Satan when it spoke to Eve.13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.
