“The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice;
let the many coastlands be glad!
Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
Fire goes before him
and burns up his adversaries all around.
His lightnings light up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.” (Psalms 97:1-5 ESV)

Our God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – is a loving and merciful and forgiving God. But he is also a God of justice who will judge the ungodly for their ungodly deeds and for their rejection of him as their only Lord and Savior. He is not a doting grandfather up in the sky just sitting there waiting to grant our every request. Just because he is loving and merciful, it does not mean that he is lacking in power and strength to judge his adversaries, when it suits him.

One of the big problems we are being faced with today is this whole diluting of truth to make it more palatable to human flesh. And it isn’t just truth that is being diluted and altered, but it is the divine character and will of Almighty God, and of his gospel message, and of his church, the body of believers in Jesus Christ. All of these are being shifted toward gratifying human flesh and sinful desires, without consequence, and without judgment, and with no requirements of us that we should obey our Lord and forsake our sins.

So, who are the Lord’s adversaries? They are not just those who make no profession of faith in Jesus Christ, but they are many who profess him with their lips but their hearts are far from him. For they are still being led by the flesh, even many who may appear fairly religious, in practice. Their lives are largely given over to fulfill the passions of the flesh and not to hear from God and to know his will so that they can be doing his will. Outwardly they may appear religious, but God is not Lord of their lives. They still are in charge.

So, just because you might make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, with your lips, and you might attend weekly “church” gatherings, and you may even serve your “church” in some capacity or ministry area, and you may be regarded by others as a “good Christian,” all that alone does not make you a Christian. What makes any of us a Christian is God-persuaded faith in the Lord which results in us dying with him to sin and us walking in obedience to his commands, by the Spirit, as a matter of life practice.

For that is what biblical faith is. Therefore, the ungodly of this world, who are the Lord’s adversaries, includes all professers of faith in Jesus Christ whose faith is words only, but not in action, who call Jesus, “Lord,” but who do not honor him as Lord of their lives. For they are still being ruled and led by their flesh and by worldly desires, and not by the Spirit of God in godly pursuits, in walks of obedience to our Lord’s commands. For they have not truly surrendered their lives to the Lord to be doing his will for their lives.

And we need to grasp this biblical truth, for far too many people are putting their hope in a false image of God, and a false gospel message, which are leading them to believe that lip service only to the Lord is going to secure them heaven for eternity. But Jesus said that not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING the will of God the Father. Many will stand before the Lord in judgment professing what they did in his name, but they will hear, “I never knew you. Depart from me..”

So, because our God is righteous, and he is just, he will keep his word. Those who profess to know him or to be in fellowship with him, who do not obey his commands, and who do not leave their sinful lifestyles behind them, will not inherit eternal life with God, but they will face his wrath, instead. For all who refuse to submit to him as Lord and to obey his commands do not know him, and he does not know them, and so they are his adversaries along with all who do not profess his name.

My Sheep

An Original Work / June 24, 2012
Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love
Based off John 10:1-30 NIV

My sheep hear me. They know me.
They listen to my voice and obey.
I call them and lead them.
They know my voice, so they follow me.
They will never follow strangers.
They will run away from them.
The voice of a stranger they know not;
They do not follow him.

So, I tell you the truth that
I am the gate, so you enter in.
Whoever does enter
Will find forgiveness and will be saved.
Nonetheless whoever enters
Not by the gate; other way,
He is the thief and a robber.
Listen not, the sheep to him.

Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,
Who laid his own life down for the sheep.
I know them. They know me.
They will live with me eternally.
The thief only comes to steal and
Kill and to destroy the church.
I have come to give you life that
You may have it to the full…

They know my voice, so they follow me.
