Even passionate preacher Rev. Jeremiah Wright was rebuked by his former congregant President Barack Obama for giving sermons in which he blamed the government for creating a racist state and “inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”

It is common today for the media to make kneejerk reactionary accusations of "anti vaxxers" and "conspiracy theorists" being responsible for low COVID vaccination rates of the black community.

The real story behind the numbers could precede any such "anti vaxx" movement by several years.

I think though there is some kind of Libertarian streak that runs through some conservative blacks. I am Facebook Book friends with a number of very conservative, traditional black ministers. Like sacramental bishops, arch bishops, priests etc. people who were raised Pentecostal but got interested in Church Fathers, Orthodox theology etc. I can see a lot of vaccine hesitancy where they are against the Covid shots because they are not vaccines in the traditional sense of the word, nor have they been thoroughly tested over time like all the previous FDA vaccines were.

I think though there is some kind of Libertarian streak that runs through some conservative blacks. I am Facebook Book friends with a number of very conservative, traditional black ministers. Like sacramental bishops, arch bishops, priests etc. people who were raised Pentecostal but got interested in Church Fathers, Orthodox theology etc. I can see a lot of vaccine hesitancy where they are against the Covid shots because they are not vaccines in the traditional sense of the word, nor have they been thoroughly tested over time like all the previous FDA vaccines were.

Funny how AIDS killed some of the most famous and influential whites, as well as many, many others. It was lifestyle choices that made AIDS deadly, not skin colour. I lost a friend, of Irish descent, to AIDS. I did not know he was gay.

Of course, that doesn't fit with the racial bias narrative. The problem with common sense is that there is not much of it about.

IMHO black people have a particular wariness about people who say they want to prevent illness in them.Yes there are conspiracy theories adding to that wariness. Yes there are warning songs that have been around for many, many years.Joe South had a warning song years ago, and I still remember it.I especially remember the verse

Don't leave God out of the picture. There is the principle of sowing and reaping. That applies whoever a person is and no matter what race. AIDS was the great leveler. I don't for a moment believe it was man made.

There are some very nasty diseases carried by animals. Some go way back before anything was known about bacteria or viruses. The plague carried by rats and rabies carried by a range of mammals come to mind.

In Australia, we have a virus (Hendra) carried by fruit bats. I can be transmitted to horses. A few people have died from it. Bats also carry Lyssavirus. It's similar to rabies. Neither are man made.

My wife is black. She doesn't trust the government, her family doesn't trust the government and neither do I. The entire "covid crisis" reeks of a scam and if you grew up in my area you learn to recognize a scam early.

That's why I wasn't rushing out to get vaccinated the second it came available. I'm just not that scared of COVID to be willing to take that chance... figured I'd wait for a more traditional vaccine or see how this one panned out over time.

Of course, now that they've made it mandatory and all this with vaccine passports puts it into a religious context for me, and how I view certain faith concepts.

But your just not going to get people to stop being hesitant to take it just because you've decided to take away their ability to eat. In fact, if anything on earth will make them refuse, that would be it.

It is for me, but I'm not black, I am M.E. The way I see it, I didn't become a Christian to bow down in worship of western government.
