Trying to NOT think about it is thinking about it. Addiction in all of its forms is such an obsession, people really need help from their higher power or even just communing with your higher intelligence. The part of your mind that knows it's not right is a form of intelligence that can be nurtured and grown.
A man with a made-up mind is the smartest person in the room. Once you get to a certain point you will tell yourself "I am free." You made up your mind and found freedom. Use whatever tools are available via treatment/therapy that will give you ways to deal with the anxiety, depression, and loneliness that comes with giving up an addiction.
It's like losing your best friend but there is a better friend out there, may you geet him now and allow him to shape your life so you have no time for it. It's hard but God will help you when you make up your mind, pick up your flag and climb that mountain. It's hard but with a made-up mind, you are more than halfway there.

For me, it was alot like that verse. Yes God can deliver but didnt do it straight away for me, God put me through suffering first, and it was quite intense. In the peak of the suffering, something spiritual happened and i felt addiction in me break.
Point being, you may have to come to acceptance that there will be suffering and choose to suffer for what is right, before you are delivered.

Of course prayer is absolutely essential. But fasting might help also. If you’re very healthy. You don’t have to fast for 40 days and 40 nights like Moses and Messiah.
But you could do a water only 24 hour fast once a week. If your health is up to that, I believe you would see great results.
