The critisms are going to be mostly the same I wager. It is a paraphrase to the ninth degree (ten being the worst). It is easy to read, and I own one myself, but I would not use it as a study Bible as it is one persons opinion of what the text means.

I have read some from this Bible and I find it really easy to read and understand. I'm wondering your thoughs on this translation. Any critisism will be helpful. Thanks.

Paraphrases are designed to be easy to read and for the average person to easily identify with the language. However the main criticism of all paraphrases and the Message in particular is a lack of faithfulness to wording of the original languages. For detailed word studies of the bible, paraphrases would be useless. But to get an easy to read, big picture view of Eugene Peterson's interpretation of the bible, the Message is great.

Eugene Peterson is generally considered to be a well-respected conservative evangelical author, at least until he wrote the Message. There are many Christians who consider paraphrases to be a dilution or corruption of God's word.

Of course, the drawback of strongly literal translations is that they are more difficult to read and understand because greek and hebrew grammar and sentence structure are very different from english. Additionally, many of the idioms, puns and comparisons used in biblical times have lost their meaning in our cultural context.

I don't know about the "remix" version. I own the regular Message version. I really enjoy reading this paraphrase because it flows so well...it's easy to read, and it's more like reading a contemporary book because of the wording. However, I wouldn't use it as my main study Bible because I don't trust the translation to be extremely accurate.

P.S.--The Psalms in the message version are wonderful (well, they're wonderful in every version, but you know what I mean!)

I think the only difference between the Message and Message Remix is in the remix the verses are numbered. At least that's what the store owner told me. I wanted to hold off on buying untill I understood if the rewording changed any of the context. I know there are bad translations out there so I'm weary of studying any new tranlations.

I don't use the Message for Bible study or teaching, however I do use it for "recreational" Bible reading.

So often as a teacher when I read the Scriptures I'm focusing on a verse and in the back of my mind going "oh that's something good for a lesson/message" - when I read the Bible "recreationally" ,however, I try to turn off the "lesson finder" I have and just read, so the Message really helps me do that.

Man! I wish I had that instead. It's really bothered me that the verses aren't numbered in mine. :) Oh well.
