The Highly Esteemed Among Men Is An Abomination to God

Luke 16:15 And He said to them, You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

Self-justification can manifest in an instant, and happens as
a commonality on the forum. I have read in defense of an
argument:"I have degrees in Hebrew and Greek", "I have
studied church history", "I know the ancient Hebrew alphabet".
This is all self-justification, rooted in pride and personal accomplishment,
and undermines justification by faith.

2 Corinthians 1:9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead,
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God
2 Corinthians 10:18 For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
