This one resurfaces every few years, and some of you may remember it. I think it's valuable to take periodically to get a rough idea of one's leanings and, because of its use of percentages, it also gives an idea of other Christian traditions which your core beliefs match. Think of it as a sort of religious ancestry testing.

In a day where Singles is dominated with fluff threads and dirges to singleness, we could use some intelligent discussion.

And… Go.

Christian Denomination Selector, a SelectSmart.com Religion selector. Ask about my top result.

- - - -

Here's mine…

Top five:
Roman Catholic Church (100%)
Eastern Orthodox Church (93%)
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (83%)
Evangelical Lutheran Church (75%)
Methodist/Wesleyan Church (71%)

Assemblies of God (69%)
Mormonism (67%)
International Church of Christ (66%)
Free Will Baptist (63%)
Mennonite Brethren (63%)
United Pentecostal Church (63%)
Presbyterian Church in America/Orthodox Presbyterian Church (62%)
Reformed Churches (62%)
Episcopal/Anglican Church (60%)
Seventh-Day Adventist (60%)
Church of Christ (59%)
Southern Baptist (56%)
Orthodox Quakerism (55%)
Presbyterian Church USA (54%)
Reformed Baptist (54%)
Jehovah's Witness (52%)
Liberal Quakerism (14%)
Unitarian Universalism (9%)
Unity Church (0%)

100% Roman Catholic as before. Eastern Orthodox is slightly down from last time, LCMS is down almost ten percent, Evangelical Lutheran has replaced Mennonite Brethren in slot four and that also marks the beginning of a swift decline in precentages. Methodist/Wesleyan Church remains in slot five with a 16% decrease from last time.

I figured Roman Catholic would be high, but I didn't expect 100% (I didn't remember my previous results and only found them after retaking). It's ironic that many Catholics-turned-Evangelicals report they became a Christian and left the Catholic Church after reading the Bible; the opposite is true for me; studying the Bible draws me closer and closer to Rome; while reading and listening to Protestant expositors, often I'll encounter something and think, That's Catholic! I've never heard a Catholic say this, but it fits-- perfectly.

Well I'm pondering these things now a days and I'm currently Catholic (converted from Lutheranism) considering conversion to Holy Orthodoxy so this is spot on results :)

Thanks for posting this funny little poll or quiz :)

I wish I could participate in the quiz but they always fail me as I can't honestly answer without being pigeonholed into some category I don't agree with. In short, I found most of the core points to be on par with my own beliefs, except until we are saved by grace through faith in Christ. In short I would say I'm not a very unusual christian, except that, I would reword that statement as we are saved by grace through the faith of Christ. It's a subtle, but profound difference if you think about it. While I cannot find a denomination that can profess that belief without sparking unnecessary controversy, typically I find myself much closer to EO/OO flavors of christianity, since they tend to embrace a "participation" in the life of Christ kind of concept with their view of theosis.

As for evangelicals rejecting Roman Catholicism and claiming to have "converted" to christianity in the process, frankly most cannot even describe exactly what they mean, although, I can identify with the sentiment in so far as my rejection of the moralizing influence of Western (and by that I mean pre-christian Grecco-Roman) philosophy and culture is concerned. It's not that I'm anti-Roman Catholic so much as I think they're misguided (no offense intended).

My number one 'match' was Reformed Baptist. Never heard of them.

The one question I was unclear about was something on the order of "Authoritative faith is given only to one person or group" I wasn't sure what that meant, but understood it as "Authoritative or convicting faith was limited only to a few specific people with the body of believers". That may have skewed something slightly.

To paraphrase Popeye, "I am indeed that which I am". Currently attending a Berean Bible Fellowship congregation after being a Southern Baptist since cradle roll. I'm happy in the Berean Fellowship and God has not directed me to clear out.

( Actually, I hadn't realized that Unitarian Universalism is considered a Christian
denomination ◉_◉ )

Perhaps that means there ain't as much difference as we often think.

I have the same sort of "feeling" about the near misses on my list. I think it would be illuminating to find out the few percentage points of difference and what they really mean.

I think I get where you are coming from with your bolded statement concerning the faith of Christ as opposed to faith in Christ. I'm evangelical and would use the term faith in Christ, but I totally agree with your thoughts on participation in the life of Christ. I don't want to derail Hawthorne's thread though, so I will leave it at that :)

Agreed. I wish that the quiz would put why we match with those denominations.

Not surprising. I currently attend a Baptist church, and hold to the doctrines of eternal security and such, as well as a belief in free will. The reason I got Assemblies of God as well is my belief in free will, although I don't see how I associate with them 100% as I don't believe one can lose their salvation after they believe and they definitely do.

Not surprised Seventh Day Adventist is pretty high as well because I believe the Sabbath to be what the Jews believe the Sabbath to be, late Friday night till late Saturday night based on the Hebrew calendar of the seventh day, and I definitely don't subscribe to the ideas that the Sabbath is "every day in Christ" or that it was moved to Sunday.

My top 5 was a little surprising, my own denomination, The Episcopal Church, ended up at number three. I'm not entirely suprised by that, I consider myself a bit of a theological mutt, if you will, so I don't The LCMS just looks out of place among my top three in between the ELCA and TEC. Episcopal/Anglican Church (100%)

I've actually thought about joining Episcopal church, or exploring it.
