The common Protestant bible (with 66 books) vs. Catholic and Greek Catholic bibles (w/ 73-78 books)

Hello, dear brothers and sisters in Christ!

Recently I found out that there are Catholic bibles with more books and having made a short research it seems that they are legitimate God inspired books (for example, The Wisdom Book of Solomon).

For me I feel like I've found (or rather God has showed me/ given me) a jewel or a gift! I am really happy to know that there might be more real Spirit inspired scripture.

I want to ask my parents to get me one of the Catholic bible versions for Christmas! And I would be so happy if you guys could help me out to choose the best one out there! Maybe you know more about the different Catholic bible versions... I am looking for the combination of the maximum amount of books, the most pleasant/ enjoyable translation (and the most beautiful book cover - but leave this one on me - open for suggestions though).

I would be super happy to hear more information about the books and their history. Resources, what you have heard/ researched, what are your thoughts about them, etc.

In short, I am looking for the best version of a Catholic bible, preferably Greek Catholic with the most amount of books and a 'pleasant' translation, and looking for suggestions and help with finding it.

I would say that the actual bible would have contained 70-77 books. The Catholic bible may indeed be more interesting.

Keep in mind, though, the protestants forced the publication of the Word of God...

Canon 14. We prohibit also that the laity should not be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.- The Church Council of Toulouse 1229

No one may possess the books of the Old and New Testaments, and if anyone possesses them he must turn them over to the local bishop within eight days, so that they may be burned.- The Church Council of Tarragona 1234 AD

The 'Greek' Bible contains the Septuagint (LXX). It has been maintained in Orthodoxy because it was the scriptures of the Apostles and at the time of Christ.

Hi; the Apocrypha comes in different versions and the Protestant version has even more books that the Roman Catholic version.

However, among Bible believing Protestants the Apocryphal books are not regarded as part of Scripture, even though tradition used to influence their printing and inclusion with the Canonical books; another word for Apocryphal is Deuterocanonical.

In recent centuries the editions used by Protestants have often not been printed with the Apocrypha, for the simple reason that they stand outside the Canon.

There are Protestants who have Apocrypha which are in the Catholic Bible. But they might have a translation which has been done by Protestant people.

And our Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians in Jesus that they are "an epistle of Christ" > 2 Corinthians 3:1-3. So, it is good to discover people who are the living meaning of God's message.

"And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment." (Philippians 1:9)

And there is God's own beauty in the ones who are God's way >

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

Therefore, how we become in God's love is the truly correct translation and interpretation of His word

At the moment I have come to the conclusion that I wish to obtain an English version of Septuagint. My goal is to get my hands on the OT books that are not in the common versions of the bible so it's not important that the NT is included in the one I am looking for...

There's an article here from the Jewish Virtual Library that deals wit your question - The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha

Bear in mind though it's written from a Jewish viewpoint.

I haven't got much interest in the Pseudepigrapha, but the "Apocrypha" and "Deutero-Canonical" texts are one and the same thing - Protestants call them "Apocrypha" and Catholics call them "Deutero-Canonical" texts. The Orthodox have a few extra books again - I don't know if they have a label for them or not, since the Orthodox Church never faced a confrontation over it's Bible in the same way the Catholic Church did, so the Orthodox Church never had to suffer a 16th century dog-fight over which OT books should be regarded as Scriptural.

The other thing is that the Protestant bibles, if they have the Apocrypha, will usually include them in a separate section, whereas the Catholic Bible will have them "in situ", sometimes interspersed within existing OT books eg. extra verses in Daniel.

Well, that's debatable.

But if you want them, any specifically Catholic (e.g. NABRE) or Orthodox (e.g. OSB) translation would have them.

For that, you need an explicitly Orthodox bible, like the Orthodox Study Bible.

Get a Protestant bible. The bible is scientifically proven to be breathed by God. Those proofs can be found through Theomatic and Ivan Panin can explain that, well. It also scientifically proves the extra books are not inspired by God. Why would you read books not breathed by God ??? beats me why you read extra fairy tales. You ought to be faithful by reading the 66 book protestant bible. God moved the reformers

Pseudepigrapha are writings which have a false name, that is they are written claiming to be written by someone, but weren't. An example of this would be the Book of Enoch, which claims to be written by the biblical Enoch, but was in fact written a couple centuries before Christ.

Apocrypha refers to "hidden" writings (that's what apocrypha means, "hidden"). Originally the term was applied to heretical, usually Gnostic, writings. But overtime came to refer more generally to works which are not canonical but which appear similar in certain ways to canonical works, not all "apocrypha" is heretical, but all early heretical writings are usually called "apocrypha". The Deuterocanonical books (those found in the Septuagint but not in the Tanakh) are often called "The Apocrypha" in Protestant circles, stemming from what Luther did in his translation, placing the Deuterocanonical books in a special appendix under the heading of "Apocrypha", with the note that while he did not consider these books canonical, he thought they were still good and should be read in church.

From the sense of "not canonical", the term "apocrypha" and "apocryphal" are still used in this way. One might, for example, speak of a story about so-and-so but the story probably being "apocryphal" meaning that it is unlikely to be true and thus isn't "canon" about that person.

That sum is perfectly divisible by certain numbers• perfect means perfect. anything added means imperfect. Theomatics is by God. Holy Spirit is the illuminance of the scriptures. The Spirit forced men to seal the 66 book bible. don't matter which man did what cause God is the author of the protestant's bible. don't bicker about how the 66 books came about . So is this a Bible translation that is the exact sum or the original language writngs?

Please explain this 'exact sum' thing more. Sounds like numerology or something.
