I was wondering what other people thought of this image of Jesus Christ. It was a very non-traditional image used in the Kevin Smith movie, Dogma.

Basically, Jesus is portrayed smiling and winking, holding a thumbs-up with one hand, and the other hand is extended forward and pointing (towards you) the fake gunshot gesture.

Some people got really uptight about it. I sort or surprised myself and thought it was kind of cool myself. I think it's a positive image, if a little humorous.

its been a long time since i watched Dogma so i don't remember that. i do recall not being very pleased at all with how they represented God and the so called Heavenly angels though...

Of course. Obviously, this was not a good, Christian movie.

But I still thought the image was kind of humorous and positive, in spite of whatever the creators intended.

i thought it was a fantastic christian film. very inspiring and it had some great messages in there!

the buddy jesus is a very interesting image, mainly because its the image that many modern churches are trying to get a cross to the young. that jesus isnt a judging figure from far away, but your best friend and companion in life.

best line: "you dont celebrate your faith, you mourn it"

i think a forum user by the name of Sash, has the photo as an avatar.

Neither the movie nor the statue bothers me. I think the statue is kind of cool actually.

The only thing I wonder is why it upsets so many Christians. I can understand if you are Catholic why it might offend you because pretty much all they do is make fun of Catholics. But if you are protestant, what is so offensive?

I think it's foolish. It was probably a joke intended to make people mad. I just wrote it off as foolishness and to not care because that's as good as it gets when the secular media tries to picture the church. I can see why it'd get someone mad, it's obviously making fun of something.. Saying that, I've only seen the beginning and the end of that movie and can't really have an opinion on it.
