Does any one have any historical information as to how long it took for the temple authorities to fix the temple after it was damaged in AD 30? The most detail we have in the gospel is Matthew 27:51-54

In early writings of the church fathers, Jerome said the huge lintel of the temple was broken and splintered and fell. He connects this with the rending of the veil. The lintel was an enormous stone, being at least 30 feet long and weighing some 30 tons! In association with the great earthquake the lintel falling could have torn the veil in two from top to bottom.

The Temple veils were 60 feet long, 30 feet wide, and the thickness of the palm of a man's hand. They were so heavy that we are told 300 priests were needed to manipulate each one. It would have taken months to fix the damage even if they had cranes.

Days? months? years? Has anyone seen anything about it?

I was re-reading all the incidents of the temple leaders rejecting Christ in the face of overwhelming evidence that he was who he said - the Son of God. My conclusion is that they continued to deny Him even though they knew it to be true. Their determination to reject him was astonishing. I think they fixed that curtain even though God had torn it. Unbelievable!

And finally God tore down the entire temple at the end of that generation. It would be interesting to hear if the Romans mentioned seeing the curtain when they finally broke into the Holy of Holies in AD 70?

So I have another question related to the previous one. Is there a website out there recording the details of what the Roman soldiers saw when they breached the temple?

The Mysterious Events of the Year 30 A.D.

Be careful- I'm not sure how much "jumping to conclusions" is done on this page- yet there is a large amount of fascinating information.

I don't think this page answers your question directly, but it offers interesting peripheral information, including the fact that the Sanhedrin was prevented from judging capital offenses, and also had to change the place where they met.

I'm not so sure the temple was used after the earthquake. I don't know... still looking.

More info, but some conflicting: http://www.bethshechinah.com/articles/messages/2005-04_passover_supernatural_signs.html

Another tidbit:http://www.essene.com/History&Essenes/Exec.htm
"The collapse of the stone lintel that supported the massive Nicanor Gate would have rended the veils that hung from it. The suggestion that the veils still hung "unrended" over the Temple entrance some years later does not, in any way, refute the tearing of those veils hanging there at the time of Yahshua's death. The fact is there were two new curtains made each year." So I guess it didn't take too long to replace the curtain!

But how in the world would they have replaced a 30 ton block of stone?

Apparently, I have now read several comments to the effect that Temple sacrifices did continue, but no sources information quoted.

I found an excellent eye-witness reasearch account of the validity of the claim that even though the temple sacrifices continued in the 40 years before the destruction of the temple in 70 A.D. that the scarlet cord no longer turned white, signifying the people's sin had not been forgiven.

Chazak! The Secret of the Scarlet Thread

This seems to intimate that temple sacrifices continued without interruption--- in answer to your OP... I know it's not an outright affirmative answer.

Don't know of any non christian reference to the curtain tearing.
let me check the links...
How hard have you looked? I don't think I can find any either. I only find the part about the quake, the lintel and the doors opening. That can be found by checking the links I posted above.
