:wave:I read that this prayer used to be said after Mass.. why is it no longer? :( I think it should be... the devil is always trying to attack the Church, so we need to pray...

my question is, does anyone know if it's still prayed after Mass in the extraordinary form? (TLM).. either High or Low Mass.

A priest once told me that he does not encourage community prayer after Mass because it gives the impression to the faithful and to visitors that the Mass is not enough. But the Mass is the perfect prayer! He recommends praying alone rather than the whole congregation praying it together.

It's great to pray it after Mass, have you heard how it came to be composed?

The prayer was formed by Pope Leo after he saw a horrifying vision about the future and the Church being attacked.

I think this prayer is very important since it was not that long ago Pope Leo saw that vision.

And the school where my kids go - i asked the priest about reestablishing the prayer and he said the parish where he is still does it.
HOWEVER: I asked him to ask my priest to replace it - he said i should.

I dont think that would go over well.
Our pastor tends to like modernism.

What I don't get is why call an angel a saint?

He's an angel.

Saints are a completely different catagory imo.

Your correct the saints are just the redeemed ones...Is praying to angels a common practice? I usually ask the Lord to dispatch His angels...nab.

santa means holy, the angels in Heaven are holy just by the nature of being in Heaven with our Lord

i would say it is fairly common to pray to angels, with St.Michael and your own un-named guardian angel being the most popular, but St.Gabriel and St.Raphael also being prayed to

Q. Why are some angels, like St. Michael, considered Saints and others are just angels? People think that only humans can be Saints.

It is true that normally we think only of humans becoming Saints.

According to the dictionary, the word "saint" is derived from the Latin sanctus, which means holy or sacred. An angel is a purely spiritual being and as such is noted for being holy. Heaven is the place where the angels who surround God live, along with the saints.

The three angels which we refer to as "Saints" are the only three who are named in Holy Scripture.

Michael remained faithful to God and led the victory against the fallen angels (Revelation 12:7-9).

Gabriel announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she was to bear the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38).

Raphael identified himself as "one of the seven holy angels who present the prayers of the saints and enter into the presence of the glory of the Holy One" (Tobit 12:15, RSV-CE).

They are referred to as Saints because they are holy, they dwell with God, and they have a name to which we can add the title of "Saint."

Recommended reading:
Catechism of the Catholic Church, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, 1994, paragraph 326

Most glorious Prince of the Heavenly Armies, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in "our battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places" (Eph., 6:12). Come to the assistance of men whom God has created to His likeness and whom He has redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. Holy Church venereates thee as her guardian and protector; to thee the Lord has entrusted the souls of the redeemed to be led into heaven. Pray therefore the God of Peace to crush Satan beneath our feet, that he may no longer retain men captive and do injury to the Church. Offer our prayers to the Most High, that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us; take hold of "the dragon, the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan," bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit... "that he may no longer seduce the nations" (Apoc. 20, 2-2).
