II Timothy 3:8

"Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses,

so do these also resist the truth;

men of corrupt minds,

reprobate concerning the faith."

In II Timothy 3:8, we are introduced to two of the magicians who confronted Moses in the book of Exodus. We are not given their names in that Exodus account, but Paul tells us that two of them were named "Jannes" and "Jambres".

The names of Jannes and Jambres appear often in ancient sources. References to them are found in Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Arabic, Greek and Latin. There are Christian references, Jewish references, and even pagan references. The Damascus Document, found in the Dead Sea scrolls at Qumran and in the Cairo Geniza referred to these two men. Eusebius quotes Numenius in Praeparatio evangelica 9.8. Numenius seems to have used the Book of Jannes and Jambres. Origen, later, informs us that Paul, in II Timothy 3:8, was referring to a book written by them, called ‘The Book of Jannes and Jambres."

These two ‘magicians’ are mentioned often in the Targums. In the Targums of Israel, the name "Mambres" was used for Jambres (which is the Greek form of the name). Jambres, therefore seems to have come from the Aramaic, a participle form of ‘he who opposes.’ Jannes is a corruption of "Ioannes," or "Johannes", from which came the name ‘John."

The account of Moses, in Exodus, does not tell us the names, but in ancient history, we find many mentions of these two by name. Pliny (23-79 A.D.) mentions them. Apuleius (130 A.D.) also mentions these two. Pliny (Natuarl History 30.1.11) and Apuleius (Apologia 90)both call Moses, Jannes and Jambres to be magicians of antiquity. The Pythagoran philosopher, Numenius, (second century), speaks of Jannes and Jambres as Egyptian ‘hierogrammateis" or ‘sacred scribes.

The reality of these two is well established, but since their book is no longer available, we, in our age, know very little of them. Many Christians have never heard their names mentioned in their church schools, or by the pastor in a sermon. Paul, in mentioning them, showed that the people of that day would have recognized their names, and the kind of persons they had been. Yet, in our time, the great majority have not heard anything about them.

The book that was written by them, has been found in fragments, partial manuscripts, and many references to it in other books. We cannot know from references to it, if the quotes are accurate in details. Some of the details given about it show inconsistencies, so we are not sure which are correct.

From what we can learn, and verify as likely accurate, we find:

1. Jannes and Jambres were sons of Balaam, the false prophet who for hire was willing to curse Israel, with the purpose being to allow the enemy then to be victorious over Israel. God would not allow it, and had a donkey speak to Balaam, and warn him of dire consequences from an angel sent to stop him. According to quotes about the book, Jannes and Jambres were with their father on that trip.

2. These two were the two magicians that withstood Moses at the time of the plagues and confrontation with the pharaoh.

Exodus 7:11, 22

"The pharaoh also called for the wisemen, and the sorcerers, ...and they also, the magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their enchantments."

The Revised Version read ‘sacred scribes’ for ‘magicians’. The Hebrew word is ‘hartumim’, meaning ‘scribes who were skilled in the sacred writings.’

The evil spirit names ‘Abezi-thibod’ (other sources call this spirit "Uzza") hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and this spirit aided the magical sorceries of Jannes and Jambres. The Zadokite fragment says: "Belial raised Johannan (Jannes) and his brother." So, demonic and evil spirit power was helping these two men who opposed Moses and God’s plan. The book they wrote, and other Talmudic sources tell us that these two, Jannes and Jambres, could at times fly through the air with aid from the evil spirits. Simon Magus is said to have had this power also.

3. These two were discredited in Egypt due to their failure against the plagues sent by God through Moses. So, they pretended to be converts and left with Israel on the wilderness crossing.

4. The two magicians of Egypt, caused Aaron to see a vision of Moses on a bier, apparently dead, and ascending upward to heaven. Disheartened, Aaron was then easy prey for them to convince him to build the golden calf. They asked that he (Aaron) make a god to take with them, and threatened his life if he would not.

5. Jannes and Jambres died at the slaughter in the time of Phineas, after seducing Israel to fall into immorality. Balaam, their father, also died at that time. When Balaam saw Phineas and the leaders of Israel, he flew through the air (with the help of Jannes and Jambres). Phineas prayed and Balaam fell to the ground. Phineas had Zaliah kill Balaam with a sword. The corpse of Balaam was not burned, but it is said that his bones rotted, and from them came several species of harmful snakes, and worms came also and devoured his body. Jannes and Jambres also perished at this time.
The evil spirits that aided these two ‘sorcerers’ in their magic, and in their opposition against Moses and God’s plan, still work. These last days are seeing much opposition come from some ‘religious’ but not ‘Christian’ people. We were warned this would happen.

Look at the context of the verses on Jannes and Jambres. They are mentioned amidst a warning for the last day opposers of the people of God. A good description is given of this kind of people.

II Timothy 2:1_9

"This know also, that in the last days,
perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents,
unthankful, unholy, without natural affection,
truce-breakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good,
traitors, heady, high-minded,
lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God,
having a form of godliness
but denying the power thereof;
from such turn away.
For of this sort are they which creep into houses,
and lead captive silly women laden with sins,
led away with divers lusts,
ever learning and
never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses,
so do these also resist the truth;
men of corrupt minds,
reprobate concerning the faith.
But they shall proceed no further;
for their folly shall be manifest unto all men,
as theirs also was."

The devil's tactics never change.

He still tries to get corrupters and hinderers into the ranks of Christianity. But God has a judgment arranged for these "resisters of the truth". There comes a time that God will call an end to such people.
There comes a time when God wants them to "proceed no further". There is a time coming very soon when "their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs (Jannes and Jambres) also was.

Just as God allowed these two to hinder for much time, God has allowed 'tares' to hinder.. Soon these ones like Jannes and Jambres of our time will meet a death, unplanned by themselves, and be judged in a judgment sent by God.

A more recent example of this is found in the Jonestown disaster. In Jonestown, Guyana, in 1978, an agricultural commune met disaster via the drinking of a "koolaid" concoction containing cyanide. Nine hundred members of a religious cult called the People's Temple, led by James Warren "Jim" Jones. (1931_1978).

This Jim Jones first founded a church called Christian Assembly of God in Indianapolis, Indiana in the late 1950's. His gospel emphasized racial and social equality. He preached about a soon to be devastated world, and that he was the only source of survival. Jim Jones was a charismatic leader who extorted money, encouraged sexual promiscuity, and administered discipline with beatings. When the press began to publicize such events and developments, Jones and 800 others fled to Jonestown. Cut off from the outside world , shrouded by armed guards, the people worked as many as 11 hours a day.

In November, 1978, congressman Leo Ryan visited the commune to investigate the previous and new charges. On November 18, Ryan and several others were killed. Then Jones gave his followers the poisoned koolaid. Some were likely forced, but others followed the order without question. There are many other ministries today where the spiritual leaders are giving their followers another kind of "koolaid". There are many kinds of poison koolaids being served in churches today.

Jeremiah 49:12

"For thus saith the Lord; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it."

Those who, like Jannes and Jambres, like Jim Jones, who hinder the church of today, are about to be stopped by the Lord. Judgment is coming for they have corrupted many. Koolaids of many kinds are being offered by these "Jim Jones" of the church.

Sins of abuse against the children of God,. (as the false attacks against Moses by Jannes and Jambres. for they challenged Moses whenever they could, they tried to inspire evil into the camp with the golden calf fiasco. They were the main opposers of that day, and we have many with the same kind of demonic spirits at work in these days.

Sins of perversion of real worship, as the golden calf. They try to insert into the Christian faith, the false heresies, such as gematria, hebrew mysticism, false Babylonian religion, gnosticism, and some wiccanism, mixing with all that evil enough Christianity to make it tempting to some naive saints

Sins of perverting righteousness, as the luring of the men to Midianitish women. These Jannes and Jambres of today promotes lies, excuse lies, condone lies. Why? to pervert the righteousness of the saints. They are encouraged to do such, by the same spirits of evil like unto the ones of Jannes and Jambres.

These are all "koolaids" that are being served by spirits of Jannes and Jambres today, using the cohorts they can enlist. Judgment for these "koolaid" servers is coming. Ezekiel had a vision that described such judgment. The sins of Ezekiel's day made God depart the Temple. The same and similar sins of the last days will make the Lord return to judge, and He will begin with the ones like Jannes and Jambres, and Jim Jones, who have hurt the real people of God.

In Ezekiel 9, we find a vision described that pictures the judgment on the church of the last days. This prophetic vision has not yet been fulfilled, and many scholars believe this inspired Peter's reference to the judgment beginning at the house of God.

In the vision, seven angels come. Six have a slaughter weapon in their hand. The other has a writer's ink horn. He is told to go forth from the holy place and set a mark on the foreheads of those who "SIGH AND CRY FOR THE ABOMINATIONS." This is what we should be doing, and many do 'sigh and cry for the abominations'.

Then the other six are sent forth and told to slay all who have not the mark. They are told to "BEGIN AT MY SANCTUARY." This vision pictures what will soon happen when the Lord sends angels, similar to the death angel that came on the first passover in Egypt. The judgment sounds serious.

Those who are like "bumps on a log" within the church had better get stirred. The revival movement in the last days is God's work. It is not optional, it is mandatory that we join. God is sending Jesus back for a revived church. He will first judge that church, before He judges the world. He will purge it of "Jannes and Jambres" of the "koolaid" servers of the day... i.e. of those who hinder revival, offend others, or do iniquity.

It is not a wise time to be in the ranks of backbiters, gossips, faultfinders, criticizers, etc. When God is done with the judgment upon the church, then the church will have the biggest revival the world has ever seen. Just as when Jannes and Jambres were killed, the children of Israel soon went into the promised land. Following the judgment of those who promote the false, poison Koolaid doctrines of the last days, great revival will soon come.

Matthew 13:43

"THEN SHALL THE RIGHTEOUS SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN IN THE KINGDOM OF THEIR FATHER. WHO HATH EARS TO HEAR, LET HIM HEAR."

Revival, or judgment??? This was the choice of Ananias and Sapphira. This was the choice given Lot and his family. It was the same choice given Noah, and those of his day. It was the choice of the Israelites in the days of Jannes and Jambres. It was the choice of those following Jim Jones. It is the choice of those today... to follow the attackers like unto Jannes and Jambres, and share their disgraceful end, or to stand with God. It is the very same choice given those in the church of the last days.

Peter warns us that

"JUDGMENT BEGINS AT THE HOUSE OF GOD... THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL SCARCELY BE SAVED..."

Can we afford to be "LUKEWARM" Christians? Can we afford to listen to the "poison koolaid" servers. God has sent forth the angel to set the "mark" upon the ones to be spared the judgment..

Jannes and Jambres came into the camp of Moses, and perverted the truth whenever they could. They enticed the people to worship a golden calf, and not to await the "law and plan for the tabernacle" being received by Moses on Mt. Sinai. They encouraged the sexual license with the Midianitish women later. Both these sins, i.e. heresies, resulted in the death of many. There are heresies today that are the poison koolaids of the day. Too many people in churches are drinking them, unaware of the death they possess...

Elijah was opposed often, and by many.
His message upset Jezebel, and most every sinner...
and that was most of the nation...

Elijah had sat by a brook for many months...
His prophecy of it not going to rain, was being fulfilled,
and it was years of drought...

Now he was ready to be used of God.
First, this infamous prophet must meet
with a man who despised him.
Elijah had to meet with Ahab.

These two explosive personalities came face to face.
Ahab says to Elijah:

"ART THOU HE THAT TROUBLES ISRAEL?" (I Kings 18:17)

This is like saying in our vernacular:
"Is it you, you troublemaker!"

Have you ever had anyone treat you like you were
the 'troublemaker', when all you were doing was
speaking God's word???
It happens to most every prophet...

Elijah snapped back to this insolent King:
"THOU ART THE MAN!" (I Kings 18:18)

Guess they were both guilty of flaming,
and would have been banned from the message board...
LOL

Elijah then takes over the conversation,
and issues commands to the King.

The King is not used to being commanded
(Except for his wife, Jezebel).

Yet, here is Elijah ordering Ahab to a battle of Jehovah
against the false god of Ahab, Baal.

On the announced day, people stream to the top of Mt.
Carmel.

The majority stood with Ahab.

With the majority came 850 prophets of Baal.

They were clad in expensive, colored garments.
Around their necks were pieces of metal,
to reflect the light of the sun.
King Ahab came with a retinue of servants,
and he too, is clad in magnificent garments.

On the other side is Elijah.
Crudely clothed, coarse in appearance,
hair disheveled, and alone.

The other 100 prophets of his day, were strangely absent.
The 7000 other "saints" of his day were staying safely home.

Elijah looked around the crowd for a friendly face, and found none.

Yet, this prophet stood his ground.
He began to preach a sermon.
This was not a sermon that won many friends.
In fact, it probably angered an already unfriendly crowd.

In their minds,
I'm sure,
they were already planning the demise,
the quick murder, of this prophet.
First, Elijah attacked their indecisiveness.

I Kings 18:21

"HOW LONG HALT YE BETWEEN TWO OPINIONS? IF THE LORD BE GOD, FOLLOW HIM: BUT IF BAAL, THEN FOLLOW HIM. AND THE PEOPLE ANSWERED HIM NOT A WORD."

Elijah says, you have to make a decision. He says there is no room for peaceful co-existence. Jehovah had long ago announced that He is not interested in sharing people's worship. Jehovah is a jealous God who wants all our worship, on none of it.

The people stay silent.
This is a tendency of many today.
They refuse to take a stand on anything controversial.
They want to ride the fence.
They serve God that way also.
Many want to be "one of the boys"
to the crowd at work, or in the local pub.

Yet, at church, they want to be the Bible carrying,
faithful attender, that everyone thinks is a pious "saint."

When asked to make a choice, they stand silent.
Afraid to reveal their double-minded ways.
Some may have had an urge to repent and surrender to the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

Yet, they were hard-hearted enough, that they simply stood,
staring at the heart-broken prophet.

Then Elijah issued a challenge.
It was in their favor.
I Kings 18:22-24

"AND CALL YE ON THE NAME OF YOUR gods,
AND I WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD:
AND THE GOD THAT ANSWERETH BY FIRE,
LET HIM BE GOD.
AND ALL THE PEOPLE ANSWERED AND SAID,
'IT IS WELL SPOKEN.'"

Baal was the chief god of the Canaanites.
To them he was the lord of heaven.
Whenever they heard thunder or saw lightning,
they said: "That's Baal."

He was the lord of fire, to them.
So if Baal could do anything,
he ought to be able to make fire.

Elijah gave Baal all the advantages.

The people were well pleased with this challenge.

Also, the people, like those of today,
also would like the challenge to be to God.
They don't want to make a decision, or have to take any action themselves.
They want God to do, to act, to prove,
to take away their doubts.
That is so much easier for them,
than for them to decide on their own whom to serve.
Many today are silently waiting for God to do some outstanding miracle, so they can serve him
without ever having to step out in faith.
God doesn't go around doing miracles for that purpose.
He has commanded us to choose Him by faith.
The crowd prayed to Baal.

I Kings 18:25-29

"...CALLED ON THE NAME OF BAAL
FROM MORNING EVEN UNTIL NOON...
BUT THERE WAS NO VOICE,
NOR ANY THAT ANSWERED.
AND THEY LEAPED UPON THE ALTAR WHICH WAS MADE.
AND IT CAME TO PASS AT NOON,
THAT ELIJAH MOCKED THEM...
'CRY ALOUD: FOR HE IS A god:
EITHER HE IS TALKING, OR HE IS PURSUING,
OR HE IS IN A JOURNEY,
OR PERADVENTURE HE SLEEPETH,
AND MUST BE AWAKED.'
AND THEY CRIED ALOUD, AND CUT THEMSELVES...
WHEN MIDDAY WAS PAST,
AND THEY PROPHESIED UNTIL THE TIME OF THE OFFERING OF THE EVENING SACRIFICE,
THAT THEIR WAS NEITHER VOICE,
NOR ANY TO ANSWER,
NOR ANY THAT REGARDED."
Elijah knew how to needle them...
he used humorous jabs at their beliefs.

Perhaps the battery in Baal's hearing aid was weak.
Perhaps if they shouted louder, he might finally hear them.
Maybe he has company, and is too busy to listen.
He might have flown by U.S. Air to Florida for a holiday.
Or, perhaps he overdosed on his sominex last night.

The people cried louder, and even cut themselves
to awaken the mercy of Baal.
If sincerity could save anyone, it would have worked here.
They were sincere in their beliefs.
Yet, they were sincerely wrong.
They had put their faith in something that had no real power.

The people had all day long to get Baal to do his specialty.
Hours passed, and still no miracle came.
Elijah then takes over from a people who were exhausted from worshiping a false god.

I Kings 18:30

"AND ELIJAH SAID UNTO ALL THE PEOPLE. COME NEAR UNTO ME..."

"Move in close" was his next challenge.

What God does can be closely inspected.
God's miracles are for real.
When someone is truly healed, even the doctor's have to admit the reality.
God doesn't do charlatan tricks to deceive.
God will show mankind that truly he is God.
It won't make them true believers,
for people who want to believe error will go on believing it,
even in the face of proof otherwise.

Then Elijah gave God some disadvantages.
He called for 12 barrels of water to be carried up from the Mediterranean to the top of the mountain.
The only hope left for the congregation of Baal was that Elijah's God wouldn't be able to do a miracle either.
If God couldn't bring fire,
then they could mock Elijah as he had done to them.
So Elijah helps their hopes and allows them to water down this sacrifice.
Surely, as they struggled with this water, to get it up to the top of the mountain, they smiled thinking there is no way that this altar will burn now.
Elijah had allowed them to pray for hours and hours to Baal. Yet, Elijah utters a short prayer to his God.

I Kings 18:36-37

"...LORD GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC, AND OF ISRAEL, LET IT BE KNOWN THIS DAY THAT THOU ART GOD IN ISRAEL, AND THAT I AM THY SERVANT, AND THAT I HAVE DONE THESE THINGS AT THY WORD. HEAR ME, O LORD, HEAR ME, THE THIS PEOPLE MAY KNOW THAT THOU ART THE LORD GOD, AND THAT THOU HAST TURNED THEIR HEART BACK AGAIN."

Immediately, the fire fell and consumed the sacrifice (this was easy), and the wood (this was also easy), but then it also consumed the stones, and the dust, and the water...(God does the unexpected). This was quite a display. The people fell down to worship God.

A short conversion of many people here gave quite an altar call for Elijah. He commanded these startled converts to capture these prophets of Baal. Then as they watched, Elijah slew these false prophets. Like a surgeon, he had to hurt, in order to heal. In our lives also, the evil has to be cut out.

Then Elijah stood there, no longer a minority. Now there were converts. Now, suddenly, he was part of the majority.
The 100 other prophets were sorry they didn't attend.
The 7000 silent "saints" were instantly sorry they didn't come to that service.
Elijah had been alone for God. Yet, he learned not to be a crowd-follower, but a God-follower. He was willing to stand alone. He knew that his God was powerful enough to take any problem, and give a miracle.

Too many Christians, and churches become "problem oriented". They form committees, study the situation, hide in their safe places as the 100 prophets, and 7000 saints of Elijah's day. They are afraid to confront the majority. They fear the rulers of the country, or of the church. They back away from the "promised land" that God wants them to have, because it might mean a fight. The majority is usually wrong...(I know this startles many)!!!!

Elijah was a person, like you and I.
He was faithful.
He was willing to stand up against a majority.
God takes a person who is available, and will do miraculous things through that person.
We can wait with the 100 hiding prophets,
or we can stay home with the 7000 saints,
but we would be wiser,
to step out as a one-person minority.

One person, with the call of God, can see miracles happen.
God will cause us to defeat any majority.
The minority with God will soon be a victorious majority.

Jeremiah 19:1-20:18

Jeremiah is told by God to get an earthen bottle.

He is to take it to the gate near the valley
where the trash and dead bodies of the poor
were put to be burnt.

Standing there he was to proclaim the sins of the people
in vivid detail.

Guess that would have gotten him in trouble even
here on the message boards... LOL

Because the people had forsaken and rejected God,
God had Jeremiah announce
that He was going to reject and forsake them.

The city was to be totally destroyed,
the people were to be slaughtered.

Jeremiah was to take the earthen bottle
and break it in the sight of the people.

This was a custom in those days
to show the utmost hatred of another.

That definitely would have gotten him in trouble here...

When one wanted to show how much another was detested,
a bottle was to be smashed near to the person.

This was to show how the person wished upon the other
- hopeless ruin.

The reasons for God's great insult to the people
in this way is the fact that:

the religious people of that day
had burned incense to strange gods
(as the people in the last days give heed
to other things more than the true God, such as those
who worship wealth and greed, not the true God
Who teaches giving and sacrifice),

and they filled the garbage dump of Jerusalem
with the innocent bodies of children and aborted babies
that were killed in worship of the god Baal
(child abuse and abortion is rampant today also),

effort and money was given to build great worship places
to a false god named Baal
(the religious people of today spend much time and money on other things they worship more than the true God),

they were shameless in their sins
(Jer. 8:12
"...they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush...").

(Many today commit sins for which they are not ashamed.
Perverts walk brazenly down the streets parading their sinfulness...

Abortionists proudly advertise against those
who oppose the murdering of over a million and a half
unborn babies a year in our country...

Heroes and heroines of T.V. live in sin and brag about it...)

they had hardened themselves and refused
to hear God's warnings.
(Many of today's religious community have turned their back on warnings of coming judgment,
they mock at those who expect the soon return of Jesus...
How dangerous it is to be on the side of the world's

scoffers...
Scoffers in the ministry are in danger
of the same greater punishment
of the Pharisees who did not recognize
the first coming of Jesus
[there is 7 times more Scripture on the second coming
than on the first coming]).
Jeremiah 19:11

"And thou shalt say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord of hosts;
Even so will I break this people and this city,
as one breaketh a potter's vessel,
that cannot be made whole again:
and they shall bury them in Tophet,
till there be no place to bury."

Then a prophet named - Pashur,
the son of Immer a priest,
slapped Jeremiah.

Guess, there have been attempts here
to 'slap' some for God's message of repentance... LOL

He had Jeremiah taken and put into stocks
near a gate near the temple to publicly humiliate the prophet.

That is often the attempt against prophets, to try to humiliate them,
and to outright oppose the words that God has given them to say... by humiliating the giver of the words...

Out of fear, Pashur released Jeremiah the next day.
Jeremiah did not quietly slink away in shame.

He continued his strong denouncement on sin.
He told Pashur that his name would be changed by God to
Magormissabib,
which means "fear-on-every-side."

Pashur is then told that he will be taken captive
to Babylon to die there.

He and all his friends to whom he had "prophesied lies"
would die in captivity to the Babylonians.

The prophet Jeremiah then begins a lament.
Jeremiah did not enjoy giving that judgment message,
he was a weeping prophet, for it was God
that was angry, and Jeremiah was the poor, weeping
prophet who had to announce such judgment on sin.

He was human, and it was difficult to speak
such a terrible message to the people
that he had just spent 7 years
weeping for near the Euphrates.
He felt pain.
He felt the humiliation, persecution, ridicule,
and hatred from those he loved.

The pain of knowing that these people would soon be judged,
and the weight of being the one to carry that message
to them is very hard.
Jeremiah 20:7-8

"... every one mocketh me..
.the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me,
and a derision daily."

It is never easy for one to declare God's will
to a wicked people.
In the last days, many of the called prophets of God
are avoiding the message of God to this sinful generation.

They want the revival,
but they do not want to condemn the sin
which might make the people weep and repent.

They want to speak a prosperity message
that cost the people little more than ten per cent
of an income to receive just blessings from God.

Many prophets of today have avoided God's true message
to a congregation that does have
spots, wrinkles and blemishes.

It was not easy for Elijah to tell King Ahab
that he was the troublemaker of Israel (I Kings 18:18).

It was not easy for Nathan to tell David
that "Thou art the man." (II Samuel 12:7)

Jeremiah wanted to quit.
He wanted to stop saying these horrible messages
that God kept giving him.
Jeremiah 20:9

"Then said I, I will not make mention of Him,
nor speak any more in His name.
But this word was in mine heart
as a burning fire shut up in my bones,
and I was weary with forbearing, that I could not stay."

The burden on the true prophets of the last day
will also be so heavy that they will desire to quit.
Yet, God puts a message within them,
and they cannot stop speaking it,
even though they would like to stop.

The message burns within, and must be spoken.
The prophet may be hated for his message,
but the prophet loves God,
and the people too much to stop.

The prophet then gives a terrible prophecy
against those who persecuted him.

Those who come against the true prophetic word
of the Lord will "stumble ... not prevail...
be greatly ashamed ... not prosper...
their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten ..."
(Jeremiah 20:11)

It may be very difficult to be a true prophet of God,
but to oppose a true prophet of God
puts one as the enemy of God.

That is a greatly less desirable position.

So, you are the same as Jeremiah then??

Did you know that Elijah called down fire from heaven?
Did you know that this happened in the Old Testament?

Did you know that in the New Testament James and John tried to copy Elijah and were rebuked by Jesus because they did not know what spirit they were. They did not understand the power of the New Covenant.

Did you know that Jeremiah was under the Old Covenant? Did you know that Matthew 11.11 tells us we as New Covenant saints are greater than all the Old Testament prophets. Why you would want to slum at the legalistic level of Jeremiah when you are in Christ, and grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ. You don't have to act like Jesus never came because He did come, and He is alive.

You don't have to live in the Old Covenant because the New Covenant has been carved in the blood of Jesus.
Because the people had forsaken and rejected God,
God had Jeremiah announce
that He was going to reject and forsake them.
Aren't you glad that we live in the New Covenant where God speaks clearly: I will never leave you and never forsake you. Aren't you glad that we have a message of the kingdom, not a message of judgement? Aren't you glad the whole Bible is true?

effort and money was given to build great worship places
to a false god named Baal
(the religious people of today spend much time and money on other things they worship more than the true God),

Agreed. Aren't you glad the Lord gives us the power to obtain wealth so we can use it to extend the kingdom? That the blessing of the Lord it makes rich and He adds no sorrow. Aren't you excited that the temples of Baal never cost as much as the temple of the Lord?

scoffers...
Scoffers in the ministry are in danger
of the same greater punishment
of the Pharisees who did not recognize
the first coming of Jesus
[there is 7 times more Scripture on the second coming
than on the first coming]).
Jeremiah 19:11

Aren't you glad that Jesus is coming again. That for us we are the bride of Christ. Christ loves us, the rapture is our blessed hope, that we are in victory, that we are accepted in the beloved. I cannot wait for the second coming...

Then a prophet named - Pashur,
the son of Immer a priest,
slapped Jeremiah.

Guess, there have been attempts here
to 'slap' some for God's message of repentance... LOL

Lol. Your arrogance knows no measure does it. You really think that God has called you to be a modern day Jeremiah. Really, please please read your Bible!

He had Jeremiah taken and put into stocks
near a gate near the temple to publicly humiliate the prophet.

That is often the attempt against prophets, to try to humiliate them,
and to outright oppose the words that God has given them to say... by humiliating the giver of the words...

Well, yes, people persecute prophets, but being silly and calling down the wrath of God on a people that Jesus died for and being told you are being silly is hardly the same thing.

They want to speak a prosperity message
that cost the people little more than ten per cent
of an income to receive just blessings from God.

Don't know who you are talking about! Haven't got a clue!

Again, you are criticising people, and I haven't a clue who. You seem to have a big chip on your shoulder. Have you read about forgiveness in the Word?

The burden on the true prophets of the last day
will also be so heavy that they will desire to quit.

That's funny, Jesus says my burden is light. You say it will be heavy. One of you is mistaken! I choose you!

Yet, God puts a message within them,
and they cannot stop speaking it,
even though they would like to stop.

The message burns within, and must be spoken.
The prophet may be hated for his message,
but the prophet loves God,
and the people too much to stop.

The prophet then gives a terrible prophecy
against those who persecuted him.

Those who come against the true prophetic word
of the Lord will "stumble ... not prevail...
be greatly ashamed ... not prosper...
their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten ..."
(Jeremiah 20:11)

No true prophet of the Lord would speak like this.

That's a fact.

It may be very difficult to be a true prophet of God,
but to oppose a true prophet of God
puts one as the enemy of God.
That is a greatly less desirable position.
If I find a true prophet of God, I will not oppose them. Believe that.

Cheers,

The false accusations, name calling and the like comes ... and it is something we probably need to get used to...

I am not an 'only prophet' or 'Jeremiah'... but I am one of a great many called to a prophetic ministry in these last days.....

There are more people alive today, than have lived in all the former ages combined... There have been nearly 11 billion people alive since Adam, and 6 billion (give or take a few) are alive today. Does God want prophets? Yes... and He gives some to this ministry.

Do we do more than pronounce blessings of money on the hypocritical? Do we measure their offerings to see if they should be blessed, or do we challenge the sins of the church? Is the church perfect??? Will more money make it more righteous?

The true prophets know the answers to all those questions.

Do we take time to debate those who hate enough to call names, insult, and do everything but provide Scripture to refute what they think needs refuted???? If some of you think it is worth it, go ahead...

THE SERMON OF THE LINEN GIRDLE AND THE SHATTERED JAR
Jeremiah 13:1-11

Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. So I got a girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it on My loins. And the word of the Lord came unto me a second time, saying, Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock. So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me. And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and behold, the girdle was marred, and it was profitable for nothing. Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. this evil people, which refuse to hear My words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto Me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto Me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear."

Soft girdles of linen and silk were worn by the upper classes. Some were embroidered. These were like belts to hold the clothes tightly to the body. They could also be used to hold possessions.

The instruction of the Lord to perform this pantomime sermon must have been difficult for Jeremiah.

Ezekiel had many pantomime sermons to give to the people at a date later than Jeremiah's. Ezekiel had to preach to mountains, to preach to trees, and to cut off his hair, etc. These were stupid to the world.

Jeremiah here is told to purchase a "girdle", and to wear it. Surely, he must have wondered why God would give him such instructions. He did it, and probably openly talked about the fact that God said to do it. People probably began to talk about how crazy Jeremiah was beginning to act.

Sometime thereafter, God gave further instructions which seemed crazy also. He was to take the girdle to the Euphrates and bury it in a hole in a rock. This was not a trip around the block.

This was a 600 mile trip, at least. On the trip to Babylon, the river Euphrates would be reached first at Carchemish, which was then held by the Egyptians.

Many believe that Jeremiah took this long journey, and remained away for seven years. He appeared again in the last days of the reign of Jehoiakim, and came back in his black robe of camel's hair. It was water-stained, and mildewed. This showed the sad condition of Judah in the days shortly before the fall of Jerusalem.
If true, Jeremiah stayed near the place where the girdle was hidden for the seven years. There he remained, and wept and interceded for the people.

Why? Jeremiah could have questioned would God take him from Jerusalem when he could have been there to beg for repentance at this crucial time.

The ways of God are sometimes hard to understand. He may seem to put us on the shelf, when we would want to be out preaching. He may want to speak to us privately, when we want to be speaking publicly. God will take the prophets, and do His will with them, if they will listen to Him.

A pantomime sermon that was to last for a period of years is hard to grasp.

Yet, God knows what He is doing. In Jerusalem, they probably asked, "What happened to Jeremiah?" "Well," they would hear, "God told him to buy a girdle, and then told him to go bury it near the Euphrates. He left, and we haven't seen him since."

Jeremiah probably became a joke in Jerusalem. Jeremiah certainly knew that he was the blunt of many a joke, but he was in obedience to God. To be one of God's true prophets, one must learn to obey even when it seems like a stupid thing that God is commanding.
Later, God says to retrieve the girdle. It was marred, and worthless. He is told that after the same manner, that God would mar the pride of Judah. As the girdle held to the body of man, so God caused Israel and Judah to hold to Him, but they would not obey Him. So God caused them to be marred, and become worthless. Judah was stubborn. Judah refused to change, refused to hear God's message, refused to repent.

Jeremiah 6:17

"I set watchmen over you, saying,
Hearken to the sound of the trumpet
(a trumpet announced a warning).
But they said, We will not hearken..."

The message of the linen girdle is a message against stubbornness.

It breaks the heart of many preachers. They preach their heart out sermon after sermon. Yet, the stubborn walk away, and refuse to repent. If Jeremiah had stayed in Jerusalem, God knew what the reaction of the people would have continued to be. So Jeremiah may as well have been out by the Euphrates, waiting for God to tell him to dig up the girdle. Those stubborn people would not have been heeding his prophetic message.
Jeremiah was called the "weeping prophet." Do you know why he wept? Because he prophesied to a stubborn people. There are many stubborn people today in congregations. Some haven't been to the altar in years. Some haven't wept for many years. Some would not weep for their own failures and sins. If they weep, it is only in self-pity, or to get others to see what great misery they are going through...

Some come to services of a church, or to a message board, to criticize, complain, and see if the person of God is "good enough" to move them...

Stubborn, rebellious, unrepentant people were the norm in Jeremiah's day. It was hard to prophesy to the people of that day. It is hard to prophesy to the people of the last days, also.

Many today will question the actions of the prophets of today. The prophets of today may suddenly leave where the religious people may think they belong. They may suddenly cease the message that some think they should be speaking. People will criticize the prophet, and may laugh at his actions, or inactions. But, the prophet of God does not answer to the religious people.

Even if the people are well-meaning, the prophet still listens to God. God tells a prophet to do some strange things. God will take the prophet on some strange journeys, and keep him there for some time, the length of which may seem hard to understand. Stubborn people that will not listen to the prophet anyhow may begin to find fault with the prophet... don't worry about such criticisms.
The Word of God is powerful. If people don't heed the Word of God, if it doesn't move people... if they will be stubborn... God may say- "Get away from here... get to the Euphrates beach... go fishing... stay awhile... commune with Me alone... "

Then God added [to this sermon of seven years in preparation] the illustration of the shattered wine jars.

Jeremiah 13:12-17

"... every bottle shall be filled with wine... Behold I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings.. the priests... the prophets... all the inhabitants of Jerusalem... with drunkenness... will dash them one against another ... will not pity ... nor spare ... nor have mercy, but destroy them ... Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken ... while ye look for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord's flock is carried away captive."
The preachers and prophets of today will preach and prophesy. The teachers will teach... The Christian radio and Christian t.v. personalities will proclaim... Yet, many people will turn a deaf ear... How hard it is to deal with stubborn, unhearing ears. Surely, they may say how great was the message... They will pat you on the back... And yet, they will not live the message that they have heard. Did you ever talk to someone whom you can tell has 'tuned you out'??? Did you ever talk to someone who was too proud to heed what you were suggesting??? God's people often will treat His Word that way. And they will also refuse stubbornly to heed His prophets.

The message of the shattered wine jars speaks to those haughty in spirit. Pride is always a first step toward a fall. Peter boasted a few hours before his fall-:

Matthew 26:33
"If all shall be offended in Thee, I will never be offended."

Psalms 73:6 speaks of pride "as a chain about their neck."

Many people are too proud of their religious standing, their great Scriptural knowledge, and their denominational standing, etc. to hear a prophet of God. Surely, the king, the priest of Anathoth, the other prophets of the day, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem were too proud to hear Jeremiah's warnings from God.
Proverbs 16:18

"Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."
Daniel 5:20 tells us that Nebuchadnezzar's "heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly..."

Obadiah 3-4

"Thy pride of thy heart hath deceived thee... though thou mount on high as the eagle, ... I will bring thee down..."
Pride kept the nation from hearing the words of Jeremiah. Pride kept the religious people of the days of Jesus' first coming from hearing His words. In the last days, pride will keep the religious people from hearing the words of the prophets. The people are often too proud to admit the sinfulness. They think the congregaton needs only a scolding, or a good rousing sermon and it will be perfectly ready for the rapture. Pride is the barrier that keeps the church from getting to the altars with weeping. Most want to go to the altars with only shouts.

Paul warned Timothy that if a "novice" is "lifted up in pride, may fall into the condemnation of the devil." (I Timothy 3:6)

These wine bottles would be filled with wine, and in the same way God takes the stubborn and proud of the religious people of today and lets them be "drunken" with insensibility. They really do not understand the message of the true prophets. They are senseless as drunks, and will destroy themselves as full wine jars being swung about freely. If people rebel against God and choose to reject the truth, God will give them over to a reprobate mind, and allow them to be totally senseless as the judgment that God tried to warn comes down upon them.

Jeremiah tells us in 13:17 that since the people would not hear and heed his prophetic words, God had him go to "secret places." There he wept sore with tears for the sins, stubbornness, and pride of the people. He knew from the Lord that judgment was soon to come. He felt helpless to stop it. God had told him to not pray for these rebellious ones... he could only weep for them.

Elijah was opposed by Jezebel...

Great post! Thank you so much.
I am really enjoying reading your posts.

BTW..in the following post...which I also enjoyed....I also understand, as Z has stated, that the Lord says to us that he will never leave us or forsake us....but this is for those of us who are following him...so that we know we always have him with us... so that we know that we will not be left out on our own to do the Father's will.

Thanks for standing in the Word. :)

God had told him to not pray for these rebellious ones... he could only weep for them.

Now this is what I have been concerned about...I have gone before a rebellious people and this is the verse - years ago - I felt the Lord gave me concerning them. I do understand bringing these STILL rebellious ones before the Lord....but how does this word go along with praying for our enemies...as we are also told to do..?

The answer is simple: we are in the New Covenant. We obey the words of Jesus, and we forgive and we bless.

Refusing to pray for people is Old Covenant. I know it fits in for some people as it means that they can refuse to forgive, be angry and be in the flesh and claim they are being spiritual. However, we have to realise we have a New Covenant and live in New Covenant realities. If you read what I said about James and John, you will realise that an act condoned by God in the OT is inappropriate and deserves rebuke in the Old. Paul tells us the law is a school master to bring us to Christ. Now I am in Christ, I am not going to go back to a law of retribution. Certainly I am not going to tell everyone I am Jeremiah and that anyone who disagrees with me is rejecting God.

Cheers,

Thank you Z. That's the same thing M told me. But let me say (and this is about ME not you or M or any quarrel you might want to perpetuate) that it never was my intention to NOT forgive, or to be angry in the flesh or to claim I was being spiritual in doing so. My only intent is to listen to and honor the Lord. When these people I was refering to continually slam every true and good thing I share and then declare I am the troublemaker, even so far as to calling authorities with lies....and then I at least imagine the Lord says to stop praying for them, I have to wonder if I AM in the flesh, or is it Him...is it so strange for one hurting Christian to ask the brethren for help in discerning this?

If you read what I said about James and John, you will realise that an act condoned by God in the OT is inappropriate and deserves rebuke in the Old.

I read what you wrote, and although this is interesting...I also know that all of scripture is appropriate to learn from... what James and John had asked permission to do was obviously not appropriate for that circumstance. That's all. In reading Hebrews it is more than clear that the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Paul tells us the law is a school master to bring us to Christ. Now I am in Christ, I am not going to go back to a law of retribution.
Yes, agreed, the law simply brings us to Christ. But we don't go back to retribution because "Retribution" always did belong to the Lord...nothing new to that.

Certainly I am not going to tell everyone I am Jeremiah and that anyone who disagrees with me is rejecting God.

That's good. No one wants that. :)

In the garden of Eden, the serpent misquoted, misapplied, and misrepresented what God had told Adam... The serpent said things like 'did God really say'... and then inferred something about what God said that totally twisted what God had really said and meant....

That being said... I do want to state, that I never said that 'anyone who opposed me is rejecting God'.... What I stated was that anyone who opposes a prophet of God, is opposing God... and then one would have to judge, am I a prophet or not, and then if I am that would be true not only of me, but of anyone who spoke against any prophet. So, to oppose John the Baptist, and to cut off his head, was opposing God... to put Isaiah in a log, and cut it in half was opposing God, and so forth...

So... my point is that to oppose someone speaking for God, one must first determine by a 'discernment of Spirits' and a testing by the Word, whether that person is a true prophet, and truly speaks for God, or whether the person is a false prophet and speaks not for God... For, and it is true, and I doubt if any but a couple here would disagree, that to oppose someone who is speaking the words that God gave them to speak is opposing God...

I did not say I was Jeremiah, either... I do say that those who have a prophetic ministry find that the way Jeremiah felt, the way Jeremiah was opposed by speaking forth the message God wanted him to speak, will find that they will treated likewise....

As far as us being forgiving, yes we are to be... and that is why we still speak forth the true message of God, that He still calls sin sin, for if we do not, and then claim we are forgiving, but we are not going to warn the sinner of their end if they do not repent, is not forgiving... it is making sure they end up in hell... If I did not have love like the Lord told us to have, I would not have desire to warn sinners of what is sin..... I could sit back and enjoy seeing some go to hell...... I do not.... and a true prophet is motivated by love, and the desire to see sinners repent and change so they can get to heaven....

And the N.T. does tell us when to stop praying for someone... and there is a time, and a circumstance when God says we are to stop... It has already be told and shown in Scripture... but... I will post the whole lesson on it if needed for some have falsely stated that the N.T. never tells us such... but I guess they do not read the N.T.... they just trust what someone has told them it says or does not say....

I John 5:16

"If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he should pray for it."

God seeks for intercessors. He wants us to intercede for saints, sinners, etc. Yet, there is one group for whom we are not to intercede.

The purpose of intercession is to keep God's mercy upon a person, in replacement for the judgment that they deserve. The mercy does not bring forgiveness, but the mercy allows God to treat them as though they were forgiven. As Jesus prayed while upon the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." And Stephen prayed: "Lay not this sin to their charge."

There is a time when God refuses to be merciful. He will refuse to convict the person for whom we might intercede. He even has instructed us not to pray and intercede for them. This is a time of severity of God.

Romans 11:22

"Behold, therefore, the goodness and severity of God..."

In the text, the Lord describes this sin as the "sin unto death." We have more commonly called it the "unpardonable sin." Any other sin, but this one, does not bring premature death to the soul. This sin causes the soul to be eternally damned, and there is no remedy for it. The person who thus sins, will never feel conviction again. The Holy Spirit is the source of conviction, and He is personally offended. He will not convict, and if there is no conviction, there can be no repentance. So if one sins the "sin unto death", it does no good to pray for them.

It is possible, and even demanded that we pray for any, and every, sin other than this one. If anyone sins any other sin, we are to intercede for them, so God will extend more mercy to them.

Jeremiah 7:16

"Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to Me, for I will not hear thee."

Jeremiah 11:14

"Therefore pray not thou for this people; neither lift up cry or prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble."

Jeremiah 15:1

"Then said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before Me, yet, My mind could not be toward this people; cast them out of My sight, and let them go forth."

After giving Jeremiah these words, God's presence left the Temple. The city was soon destroyed, and the Temple was also. These ones about whom God spoke, were killed in the slaughter, or were taken to die in captivity in Babylon.

About this same group Ezekiel was told:

Ezekiel 14:14, 16

"Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God... Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons, nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate."

THE NATURE OF THE UNPARDONABLE SIN
Mark 3:28-29

"Verily, I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme; But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness but is in danger of eternal damnation."

To blaspheme and to offend the Holy Spirit is the unpardonable sin. It removes the One Who convicts. Without this conviction, there can be no salvation. Without the possibility of salvation, there is no reason for us to intercede. God does not want to hear such intercessions.

"Blasphemy" is from the Greek word - "blasphemia." It means "to speak evil of, to rail, to revile, to defame, to slander, and to insult." It probably comes from two Greek words, "blax" which means "stupid", and "pheme" which means "speech." It is used most often to refer to slanderous, scurrilous words. It is required that the speaker of such words know what he is speaking, and therefore only Christians can sin the unpardonable sin.

The unpardonable sin is unpardonable because it is willful, deliberate rejection of light. It is an insult to the One we know has mercifully drawn us to the forgiving Christ.

When Jesus spoke the words of Matthew 9:32, and Mark 12:24-30, He was speaking to some Pharisees who had just said that Jesus had cast out demons by the power of Beel-zebub. They had evidence of the power of Christ before their eyes, and still they rejected Christ. This sin could be forgiven, says Jesus. Yet, the same kind of knowledgeable rejection of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

If the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is committed in ignorance, it can be forgiven. Paul was a testimony to this truth. He had so sinned, before he came to Jesus in salvation. Since, he was ignorant of what glory there is in the salvation brought by the convicting Holy Spirit, he was held guiltless in this sin.

I Timothy 1:13

"Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious; but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief."

God will forgive blasphemy against the Spirit, if it is done in the sinful state of unbelief. This sin is so horrible, because it is sinned by those who know Jesus as Savior. Sinners need not worry about this sin... but Christians who willingly, knowingly decide to blaspheme the precious Holy Spirit Who has already brought them conviction, and baptized them into the body of Christ will never again feel the conviction of this Holy Spirit they have offended.

This sin is not committed suddenly. Note the progressive nature of the unpardonable sin as explained in Hebrews.

Hebrews 10:29

"Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done respite unto the Spirit of grace?"

First, there is willful sin.

Secondly, there is treating Christ with contempt.

Thirdly, they count the blood of Christ as something unholy and unnecessary.

Finally, they insult and blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a sensitive Person, our closest friend, our Comforter, and our Advocate; yet He is easily quenched, grieved, and denied. He loves us, but is easily made "jealous." He is a jealous lover of each saint. By offending Him, we may lose His power, His presence, His conviction, and perhaps even our salvation. The subject of- sins we could commit against Him- is very serious, and needs to be considered carefully.

The progressive falling into the unpardonable sin usually begins with "misplaced love." Misplaced love will cause us to deny the very nature of the Spirit, that is - to love. (II Timothy 3:1-5) This state is predicted for the last days, when many Christians will have a powerless religion. We are instructed by Paul in II Timothy to turn away from such Christians, who by their misplaced love, deny or turn away from the power of the Spirit.

Some go further and "grieve" the Spirit. Ephesians 4:30-31 tells us that bitterness, wrath, anger, etc. between the saints will "grieve" the Holy Spirit.

Others will "quench" the Spirit. Some will "resist" Him. A few will try to even "lie" to the Spirit. The really foolish will "vex" the Spirit.

Finally, comes the BIG ONE. The most blatant will "blaspheme" the Holy Spirit. These sins are seen in the church far too often. The biggest problem is that there is far too little teaching on these sins. How can we adequately avoid such sins when we know so little about them? The churches spend time on rules, and enforcing traditions; yet, they cannot seem to find time to talk about these serious sins against the Holy Spirit.

Most will remember that the Lord Jesus is in nature like a "LAMB." There needs to also be the recognition that the Spirit is, in nature, like a "DOVE."

John 1:29-32

"BEHOLD, THE LAMB OF GOD, THAT TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD...THE SPIRIT DESCENDING...LIKE A DOVE, AND IT ABODE UPON HIM."

The dove, like most birds, will easily be put to flight. Yet this "DOVE" remained upon this "LAMB." Jesus, as a lamb was submissive, meek, and gentle. If our nature is like the Lord's, the Spirit will remain upon us. If we become like a "bull", the Dove will be put to flight. Too many Christians want to have a nature that is unlike a lamb's. They wonder why they do not have the presence of the Spirit abiding with them, as some saints have.

The lamb is a simple creature. It is helpless, without the Shepherd. It makes no schemes to achieve its purposes. It lives an uncomplicated life. It is easily shorn, for it offers no resistance to the giving up of its rights. A lamb never resists, complains. As a sheep is silent before its shearers, so Jesus was silent before His accusers (Isaiah 53:7). The lamb is a peaceful animal. It bears no grudges, seeks no revenge, holds no bitterness. Upon such a Lamb, the Dove can remain. If we want to maintain the presence of the Spirit, we need to take on the very nature that was the Lord's, the nature of a lamb.

Mark 3:29

"BUT HE THAT SHALL BLASPHEME AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT HATH NEVER FORGIVENESS, BUT IS IN DANGER OF ETERNAL DAMNATION."

Blasphemy against the Spirit is sin, but not all sin against the Spirit is blasphemy. To utter words against God willfully, malignantly, and knowingly is blasphemy. Not one of the Trinity is more sacred, or more than equal than the others. So why is the "blasphemy against the Spirit" worse than blasphemy against Jesus or God the Father? It is because of Their jobs. Jesus takes people to God. It is the Spirit that brings people to Jesus. So the "Initiator" is the Spirit. He starts the process of bringing people to salvation. He brings the conviction that makes one want to become saved. So, if He is grieved so much that He ceases to make a person want to get saved, then that person will never repent to Jesus, so Jesus can forgive.

If a person blasphemes Christ, the Spirit is still working to bring the person to Jesus in repentance. If one blasphemes the Spirit, who then will convict that one to bring them to Christ for repentance???

John 16:8-9

"WHEN HE IS COME, HE WILL REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN..."

We need that reproof, and conviction. Without it, we will never repent. We won't want to repent.

To treat the Holy Spirit with flippancy, grieving and quenching, without being too concerned with how we have hurt the Person of the Holy Spirit, will lead us from one sin against the Spirit to another. Finally, we will reach the final and devastating one. Let's cease to treat the Spirit lightly. Let's pay Him the proper respect and adoration!

Some try to treat other sins as also -unpardonable, and unforgivable. Divorce, remarriage, etc., even when they are sinful, are forgivable. Many Christians attempt to put them in the category of "unpardonable." Any sin is forgiven upon request, and repentance. The unmistakable sign that one has sinned the unpardonable sin is the lack of guilt and desire to repent.

As Christians, we try to think it impossible that any in "our church" have sinned this unpardonable sin. Yet, the Bible predicts that in the last days, there will be many in the churches that have apostacized. (II Peter 2, Jude 4, II Tim. 3:1-5, II Cor. 11:13-15, I Tim. 4:1-3, I Pet. 4:17-18, Matt. 7:15-23, Matt. 13)

These are the ones who can continue to cause trouble, stir up strife, spiritually abuse others, gossip, etc. and never want to repent or change their ways. They can always find justification for living contrary to the two commandments of Jesus -- to love God supremely, and to love their neighbor as themselves. When the altars are empty of tears; when people shout, but can't weep over their own sins, or anyone else's; when judgmentalism is prevalent, but self examination isn't; then it is likely that some have committed the unpardonable sin - or are about to commit it.

As hard as it is to believe, the unpardonable sin is more common than we have thought.

The Lord warned in Matthew 13 that in the last days the "tares" would ripen and be more recognizable than in previous periods.

We are told in II Peter 2, that some false teachers would be at the church "feasts" or dinners.

In II Timothy 4, we are warned that in the last days some shall depart from the faith, following some latter day doctrines devised by demons to lead people from the truth of God's Word.

In I John 4, we are warned that these doctrines need to be tested and tried, because of their deceptiveness.

In II Corinthians 11:13-15, we are warned that some workers of the devil will appear as "ministers of righteousness," and "apostles of Christ."

The deceitfulness of some former Christians (who have lost the possibility of ever finding salvation again, because of their sinning of the unpardonable sin) is great. They may be able:

to do Christian service,

to hold church positions,

to weep (not in repentance, but in feeling sorry for themselves),

to carry on a hypocritical pretense of serving God,

etc.;
In reality- they have lost God! And then there are the many that, perhaps have not sinned the unpardonable sin yet, are so close to this terrible sin, that only a revival of great proportions may save them from pushing a little farther in resisting the Holy Spirit to the unpardonable sin.

This is why we must intercede desperately in these last days for those who have not sinned the unpardonable sin. There are many in the church congregations today who are dangerously close to the unpardonable sin.

While the text of this lesson told us who not to pray for, it also told us that we are to pray for all others. Many are headed in the direction of the unpardonable sin. If we do not intercede, many more will sin this "sin unto death."

We are warned that "Now is the day of salvation..." We are also told that we "know not what a day may bring forth..." we have already lost too many from the fold of true salvation. The numbers of hypocrites, false prophets, and "tares" within the church congregations are already too large. We have so little time!

Careful, NewSong, a single "?" might be enough to set off a whole tirade of abuse calling you a rejector, someone praying for you to die, and all sorts of other fun and games.

It is such a shame that a forum dedicated to the gift of the Spirit that encourages and comforts seems to do anything but.

Cheers,

If I posted a message about adultery, and then someone came on and claimed to be a hooker, and claimed abuse.... They were the one pointing out the sinner person, I only spoke on the subject...

The same here, I can post, with no names to point out persons, about 'rejectors of God's Word, give Biblical examples of such, and then some come here and call names, reject the Word, etc... and then claim 'abuse'... That is the pointing out of the sinner... they hang the tag on themselves if they do such...

So... to put a ? does not make one subject to abuse... I would like to know what you question, did you not understand something, if so, what? and did you not agree? if so, what passages of Scripture did I misconstrue, in your opinion, and how... Just a question mark does not tell me how or what to answer...

I feel that I have done 'my homework' so to speak on that subject, and done quite a bit of study... and if I am in error, I would like to know how... and would correct any error to what the Bible is teaching... I do desire more than opinion, for if your opinion is different, you should have Scripture to explain your reasoning for your opinion. I doubt that anyone would be 'Scripture-less and still consider their opinion to have any weight in this crowd... so I know you must have some Scripture to base your opinion on, and we can discuss that...

To the other one, who has called me 'crazy, insane, and many more names, this forum is not for personal attack... if you have Scriptural or prophetic Word from God, I think it is allowable here, but the name calling is not allowed on this forum. I await your apology. My posts are validated with Scripture, I speak to the subject at hand, and not call names. I speak of sin that the Bible rebukes, I use Biblical examples of such sins, and have not called you names. I await the apology!

interpreting my words can be... LOL

I used an obvious sin to illustrate how you react, not call you one of those kind, but to use a sin that is by most considered a sin... so as not to have to debate whether the example I used was really a sin or not...

The illustration shows how I do not name names, I talk about the sin of rejecting God's Word, and God's prophets... and show how some of God's prophets, like Jeremiah, were rejected... and I find that on message boards, speaking to people who feel a prophetic calling, they too have often been rejected.

I did not say you were one, and if you are one, you will show it by what you say, and how you react to the Word of God... I just posted against the sin of doing such kind of rejection. You could have agreed, and said, yes, what they did to Jeremiah was wrong, what they did to Jesus was wrong... and it would show you are on God's side... Your reaction to my teachings is revealing of whose side you are on. Whose side is it, God's?? And if you agree that rejecting 'prophets' whoever they are, is wrong, then show some Scripture to back up your teachings on such, and share with us...

If you feel that we should all attack a real prophet, whoever he or she is, then back that up if you can...

So far, I only see the name calling against me, the attack of every post I post, and no Scripture at all...

To twist what I just posted and say I called you an adulterer... makes me realize we need some teachings here on how to do 'exegesis'... for if you interpret the Word of God, the way you interpret my writings, it is scary!

1Co 4:11 To this very moment we go hungry and thirsty; we are clothed in rags; we are beaten; we wander from place to place;

1Co 4:12 we wear ourselves out with hard work. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;

1Co 4:13 when we are insulted, we answer back with kind words. We are no more than this world's garbage; we are the scum of the earth to this very moment!

I am the sinner opposing the great apostles? Is that what you are saying?

If you cannot take someone having a little comment about your posts on a news list, you really should not start preaching the Word for real, you would never cope.
