Can someone tell me what the similarities and differences are?
My understanding (please correct me if I am wrong) is that free-will baptists are more comfortable with, if not fully accepting of, Arminian thelogical constructs. The SBC, at least of late, is more comfortable with the Reformed (Calvinistic) understanding of God's sovereignty and its relation to the human will.

A someone who is newly born-again it is a dichotomy I often pray about.

Free Will Baptists are definitely Arminians, and do not hold to the "once saved always saved" teachings of the Southern Baptists. They also practice footwashing as an ordinance.
FWB's see themselves as more in the fundamentalist sphere than Southern Baptists, but the SBC is working on it!
