Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor has no plans to retire according to those close to her, despite a number of Democrats calling for her to stand down.
Liberal pundits have asked the 70-year-old jurist to stand down and allow President Joe Biden to replace her with a younger liberal before Donald Trump's inauguration in January.

Their plan of packing the Supreme Court was smashed. Now there is desperation.

When they regain power they won't be as foolish as they were.

Biden was too nice in many ways. He shouldn't have hired a cautious, fearful AG like Garland. He should have picked a shark, because he was going after a shark. The evidence was there, ripe for the picking. It had all been in the second impeachment trial, which was derailed by Republican complicity.
When Nixon was president (charged with much, much, much less) Republicans had enough character to mete out justice on the criminals.
If Garland had appointed an independent counsel on January 22, 2021, we could pledge allegiance to the flag and honestly say with liberty and justice for all--because justice means holding criminals accountable, especially if they threaten our democratic form of government.
My son always said Biden should have told Manchin the government would prosecute his daughter, former CEO of a pharmaceutical company that charged people over $500 for insulin (enough to finance a golden parachute of many millions for her.) Manchin wasn't a real Democrat, with his parties for Republicans on his yachts. He was a spoiler, a turncoat.
But Biden, of course, has more integrity in his little finger than his successor has in his much bigger than 230 pound body.
He played fair.
I believe in playing fair, too--but look where it's gotten us. Manipulative grifters, rogues and scoundrels.
He certainly should have hired someone with more gumption than Garland. I agree threatening Manchin was wrong.
On judgment day, God will show Manchin's daughter all the saints who died too young due to her corporate greed. We can wait.

Replace her with Harris? Consolation prize? "You weren't qualified to be president, and you aren't qualified to be a Supreme Court judge, but since you're a black woman we'll put you there anyway." I don't think the Democrat senators would even go for this. And using racist logic to give people positions doesn't end well.

The real question will be conservatives leaning on Thomas and Alito, which is already happening.

Leonard Leo, Trump aide Mike Davis spar over Supreme Court retirements

Jabs over whether to pressure Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito to retire could reflect a split between Trump allies and other conservative lawyers.

“No one other than Justices Thomas and Alito knows when or if they will retire, and talking about them like meat that has reached its expiration date is unwise, uninformed, and, frankly, just crass,” Leo said in the statement. “Justices Thomas and Alito have given their lives to our country and our Constitution, and should be treated with more dignity and respect than they are getting from some pundits.”

“It’s amusing to watch D.C. conservatives pretend to care about Supreme Court justices now, after they sat on the sidelines with all the money during the years of vicious attacks against conservative justices,” Davis said.

Davis predicted on X earlier this week that Alito might be “gleefully packing up his chambers.”

I expect Thomas can be bought off with one megayacht, or two regular yachts and a private island.

I think the Republicans should follow suit with the plans the Democrats wanted -
Pack the court - add the seats that they wanted and then end the filibuster. Do EXACTLY what they proposed and list it as a bipartisan bill.

Exactly. The more ruthless and authoritarian they get, the quicker 155,000 people in three swing states (Trump's real margin) will wake up and recalculate.

Was there any real effort of "packing" the supreme court during the last 4 years?

I'm sure some politician suggested it, but politicians sometimes suggest crazy things, like nuking hurricanes.

Trying to throw her under the bus like they did Biden ... she is wise for not falling for their games.

Sonia Sotomayor should be extremely offended by this.

Keep up. Your party has turned on Biden.

“The biggest onus of this loss is on President Biden,” said Andrew Yang, who ran against Biden in 2020 for the Democratic nomination and endorsed Harris’ unsuccessful run. “If he had stepped down in January instead of July, we may be in a very different place.”
Different issues. Biden mostly played by the rules.

But that didnt make him personally suited to a campaign and another 4 years. I was pretty angry with him well before the debate disaster for going back on his one term pledge.

If that be his margin then A why is it that he won by millions of popular votes and more than that why is it that he preformed better than expected in BLUE areas ( states and areas of states) barely losing MN and NJ two states that have been blue for decades.

The effects of a misleading monopolistic right-wing media...
And global post-COVID inflation for which Biden was not responsible.

Saw a chart today. Around the world (since the inflation was worldwide) incumbents were voted out everywhere. Where conservatives were incumbents, liberals were elected. Illogical general malaise.

Interesting - doing EXACTLY what the Democrats wanted to do is now ruthless and authoritarian when 30 days ago it was the right thing to do.

Don't ya just hate it when reality flies in the face of an unsubstantiated claim. 155,000 huh?

If 155,000 people in MI, PA, and WI had voted differently I wouldn't be reading anguished FB posts by people with SNAP cards talking about using up their grocery funds the day they're issued, so fearful that The Victor will empty their accounts on 1/21.

The Democrats will get away with what they can. They did not control the House. As to Joe:

"But now, frustrated by several decisions from the court’s current justices, some want court-packing by another name: a new framework to strip current justices of their constitutional responsibilities and transfer those powers to successors, one justice at a time, beginning with Justice Clarence Thomas."
