Should I give up looking for work

Almost six months ago my hours at my current job were cut.Since then I've put in applications for other jobs but nothing has come of it.I've either been rejected or haven't gotten a response from the places I applied to.I've asked the LORD to give me favor and open doors for me to get a better job or restore my hours..I've looked into getting a GED (I never graduated high school)but I don't think I can pass the test.I've never been good at algebra and geometry is like a foreign language to me.Sometimes I feel like just giving up.Should I keep applying for jobs or just wait?As for getting my hours back I don't see that happening anytime soon.May God give me strength and patience during this trial(Thank you in advance for your responses)

I've been in a similar predicament- only in my case, I didn't have a job at the time. I did the same as you- prayed for His help and for Him to open doors for me to get a job that He wanted me to be in and to help me through that time. I personally kept applying. Out of the dozens of applications I put out, I only got a few interviews and none of them accepted me. I remember I was rejected at this really big clothing company and while I was going down the escalators to leave the place, I remember praying to God saying something along the lines of "that's okay God. Maybe this wasn't the job that You wanted me to be in. I trust in You. I'll keep trying. I'll keep applying. I really thought this was it. I really felt that this was the one You wanted me to be in, but that's okay". I was half disappointed and half hopeful. And you know what happened? By some miracle.. they asked me to come in again for an interview and I got accepted the 2nd time around. It was only a seasonal contract though but I desperately needed it. So in a nutshell, pray like crazy- He wants you to and He wants you to trust Him and to keep persevering. And to keep applying. No matter what. Keep applying until you get that interview and the position. God personally has helped me become confident through the 1st few interviews I had so that by the time I went in for an interview [and by this time, I was super discouraged from the results of the previous interviews that I literally only had enough courage in me to go through this one], I was confidently answering the questions, howbeit, not perfectly, but God still pulled through for me and I got the position that I'm currently in now [which is not seasonal]. So keep persevering! : )

If you have the time, give the GED a try again. I am a math professor, and I know for a fact that many people develop skills as they grow older, and what they could not do in high school, they can many times do now. Get a review book and practice, and get a tutor. I'm on Facebook doing tutoring every day, and would have no trouble helping you also.

the thing about faith is that it has no time limit, because faith is based in God's unchanging word. so what you need is a word from God:

since your a reborn believer, and you desire to 'walk in the counsel of the Godly', then whatsoever you do shall prosper - if you don't put a time limit on your faith. right now you're 'putting your hand' to finding a better job, so if you'll cling to this unchanging word from God to you, and remember it when it seems like all your efforts are in vain, it will strengthen you to continue until you find that job (and get whatever education God leads you to get).

let them say continually,...the LORD...hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

God wants you to prosper, He's already on your side - but He can't override other people's free will either - give Him time to guide you to the job He's setting up for you. faith believes until the thing promised by God is known by experience rather than by faith alone

I think in the meantime brush up on your skills. You can learn new things - you dont stop learning once you left high school.

As for applying for jobs, try an agency and they do the work for you letting you know about jobs. Try temping.
I dont know what line of work you in but, i know that its easy to be discouraged with the lack of response to applications and ive been applying for years in my field with no success. Sometimes you just need to keep on doing your own work, whther its a craft or a trade or learning, instead of trying to work for someone else and hoping to be picked. Heaps of others are in the same position. You will gain more satisfcation that way.

The bible says study to be quiet and do the work of your own hands.

Have you been strategic about your search? If you have a local employment agency, go there and ask them for help with labour market information, skills analysis, revamping your resume, drafting an effective cover letter, uncovering the hidden job market, how to cold call, network, and perform a targeted search. Get all the practical helps you can.

That is not to undermine the power of prayer, but you need to be as proactive as possible in finding work that will be suitable. As well, use this time as an opportunity to learn to lean on him, learn to trust, grow in faith, and know that God keeps his promises, even if he waits until it seems there is no time left to bail you out. Use this time to let God develop your character, perseverance, patience, and contentedness.

Keep working, and study until you pass that GED. It will be harder to find a job without a GED than with one. Passing it is very do-able.

You see, it is very much important for us to create wealth for our selves in other to be able to take good care of our family and ourselves aswell.
This begins with finding a job. The bible said in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 that if we don't work we won't eat.Christianity is not to countenance slothfulness, which would consume what is meant to encourage the industrious, and to support the sick and afflicted. Industry in our callings as men, is a duty required by our calling as Christians. But some expected to be maintained in idleness, and indulged a curious and conceited temper. They meddled with the concerns of others, and did much harm. It is a great error and abuse of religion, to make it a cloak for idleness or any other sin. The servant who waits for the coming of his Lord aright, must be working as his Lord has commanded. If we are idle, the devil and a corrupt heart will soon find us somewhat to do. The mind of man is a busy thing; if it is not employed in doing good, it will be doing evil. It is an excellent, but rare union, to be active in our own business, yet quiet as to other people's. If any refused to labour with quietness, they were to note him with censure, and to separate from his company, yet they were to seek his good by loving admonitions. The Lords is with you while you are with him. Hold on your way, and hold on to the end. We must never give over, or tire in our work. It will be time enough to rest when we come to heaven.

God wants us to do the good work he has prepared in advance for us to do.
This has nothing to do with work in the secular sense that you apply for and may never obtain solely for money it is the work that God wants you to do and has placed on your heart.

Eg it could be caring for others, caring for animals and plants children etc. that is a good work. Jesus worked on the sabbath...doing His fathers business. No he wasnt buidling a house and then being paid for doing so he was healing the sick. That was his work.

Many people these days are mistaken about what work is. Theyd much rather work for the devil,and get gain than work for the Lord.

As many others have said, pursue that GED. There are some cheap books on Amazon that will help you prepare. Without a GED you'll have trouble finding a job, and what you do find will probably not pay a living wage. The GED will open doors for you. Keep at it until you pass. Then begin your job search again.

I agree with pursuing your GED. Your local library or adult education center/community center may even have some free GED classes to help you prepare. The libraries here also offer job readiness classes, computer training classes, and will assist in job searches for all levels of education. All for free. Please check the resources in your town or neighboring towns!

Get the GED.

I could not even do fractions until I was 39 years old. I had my HS diploma but was worried about college math although I wanted a way out of the low paying restaurant business. A friend who has a math degree and is a teacher helped me through it, and I found I loved math! I highly recommend the Life of Fred math books too

PS-now I am an accountant and am currently enrolled in an MBA program with an accounting focus. Math is fun!
