• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi All:

I thought I would do something today to offer assistance to those who feel they are addicted to sex, pornography or lust. I am aware there is a whole forum on this, but I cannot get into it for some reason.

Anyway, we have a saying in Sexaholics Anonymous - "you could throw a rock in an AA meeting and hit a sexaholic" In other words, there are a lot of drug and alcohol addicts who come to conclude that their drinking and drugging were the result of their trying to cover over bad feelings for what they were doing sexually..... Think about it.....

I am a long time member of SA - if anyone wants to learn more about the program, please feel free to send a PM.

Regarding getting into the men's porn support forum, go to the Member Services center (MSC) and request it. They'll change your permission so you can enter. It's usually a good idea to talk about sex, porn, etc., in the gender specific forums (male-only, females only). Here's the link to MSC: http://www.christianforums.com/f883/

God bless.

We have a lot of female members too - but I agree it would not be a good idea in this forum to mix male & female. Face to face and phone meetings seem to be ok for male & female mix, but this place could much more easily lead to people acting out online together.

I'm a longtime member of AA and think especially in the beginning that it's good to recommend that males and females have the same gender sponsor and even attend at least one male only or female only meeting. Having worked inpatient counseling it became apparent early on how vulnerable we are in the beginning of our sobriety, females in particular. Getting the recommendation to not make any major decisions the first year including getting into relationships is really supported in same sex sponsorship and meetings. I've never attended an SA meeting but have heard good things about them. I attend a mixed open and mixed closed AA meeting in my area. God bless you.
