Hi all,

I read many obituaries online and there is a "Scriptural Rosary Service" mentioned in some Catholic faithful who passed away.

What on earth does that mean?

Blessings!

It usually done right before the final showing ends. The day before the funeral. A priest or deacon comes in and leads the service. It where friends and loved ones recite the rosary together the evening before the funeral. It’s usually done in the funeral home where the deceased is being shown.

All of my grandparents are now gone. I remember reciting the rosary for my parental grandmother in 2004, and for my maternal grandfather in 2007. Apparently, my mother and her siblings did not want to recite the rosary for my maternal grandmother when she passed in 2016, because it "took too long."

I'm sure, by faith, all of my grandparents have now passed through purgatory and are now in heaven...regardless, I still keep them all in my daily prayers.

My paternal grandfather passed away in October of 1996. I was just over a year old, and I have no memory of him.
