I decided to soak them in a bucket outside for 30 minutes and gently remove each one.
They are drying in the sun. I took photos in case it works to make a tutorial.
I can't be the only person who has picked up something in the craft aisle that has a really strong scent. The water I removed them from was an orangey brown and my hands reek.
So I really hope it worked. :)

I'll try the newspaper trick if this doesn't work.

put them further away.

Otherwise something like UHU will help mask the smell.

Thanks for the suggestion. ^_^

Sadly the whole further away thing doesn't really work since they are supposed to be decor for the tables. Not looking to mask the smell...a skunk would mask the smell. :D

Looking to get rid of it. I still can't believe a bath didn't work.

Place some baking soda or odor control kitty litter in a zip-lock bag and then put the pine cones in it and seal the bag. Leave them in there for a few days. This is what I do with used books that came from a smokers house. It gets rid of all the stench of cigarette smoke, but it has to stay in the bag for a few days to a week for it to work.

I would suggest soaking them in baking soda. And I mean really letting them soak. That's how the scent got on there in the first place.
At least that's how I make scented pine cones. I soak them in fragrance for several days and then let them dry.

So I figure soaking them in baking soda (or any other odor neutralizer) should help ease out the smell.
