'Skeletal Psalms' was an album released by the band Disciple earlier in 2023.

One song from the album caught me like an emotional gut punch.

That song was "Resurrecting Reasons". The way I take this song is how I see my Evangelism to atheists and skeptics. It reminds me that even though it does not appear that the atheist or skeptic has had any change of mind (or heart) I just don't know what it is they are thinking and I may be doing more than it appears. After all, all we can do is sow seeds. The rest is up to the Holy Spirit.

Here is the song:

Here are the lyrics:

[Verse 1]
I'm stained
All the dark days tattooed on my brain
Though I try these crimes won't wash away
I don't understand why You're still here
You're still here, You're right here
Right in front of me

[Chorus]
I've tried to push Your blue skies away
I keep murdering Your mercy from my, my memory
I try to run but I can't escape
'Cause I'm in hell and You're here with me
You keep resurrecting reasons
To keep resurrecting Jesus in me

[Verse 2]
I'm in pain
All the good deeds covered in disgrace
I try to turn but it's always in my face
It makes no sense that You're still here
You're right here
Why are You right in front of me

[Chorus]
I've tried to push Your blue skies away
I keep murdering Your mercy from my, my memory
I try to run but I can't escape
'Cause I'm in hell and You're here with me
You keep resurrecting reasons
To keep resurrecting Jesus in me

[Bridge]
Come alive, come alive
Roll the stone out from my heart
And come alive, alive inside
Come alive, come alive
Break my heart wide open make me
Come alive, alive inside
Come alive (Come alive), come alive (Come alive)
Roll the stone out from my heart
And come alive, alive inside

[Chorus]
I've tried to push Your blue skies away
I keep murdering Your mercy from my, my memory
I try to run but I can't escape
'Cause I'm in hell and You're here with me
You keep resurrecting reasons
To keep resurrecting Jesus

[Post-Chorus]
You keep resurrecting reasons
To keep resurrecting Jesus in me

[Outro]
Come alive (Come alive), come alive (Come alive)
Break my heart wide open
Make me come alive (Come alive), alive inside
Resurrecting Jesus
Resurrecting Jesus in me

Disciple has been, and still is, my most favorite band that is still active. I thoroughly enjoy and am blessed by the vast majority of their songs. Whether its a hard rock / metal song from Skeletal Psalms like "The Executioner" or "Bow Down", or even "Radical" from the Attack Album and "R.I.P.", "O God Save Us All", "The One" from the O God Save Us All album; and then classic rock ballads such as "Erase" and "God is with Us" from the Long Live the Rebels album, and "Dear X, you don't own me" from the Horseshoes and Handgrenades album, and "Promise to Live" from Skeletal Psalms; I am thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ for the blessings He brings to me through the talents of Kevin Young and his fellow members of Disciple.
