Psa 75:2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

Psa 75:3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

Reading the word of God is so delightful as The Lord uses it to remind us of his truth.

I have quoted the KJV above because it is my preferred reading for study and contemplation, but I was first drawn to this text when reading the NKJV, which I have next to my place in the lounge.

In verse 2 it reads, “When I choose the proper time, I will judge uprightly.”

This reminded me of Jesus’ encouragement to his disciples, “It is not for you to know the seasons, which the Father has kept in his own power.”

And, “No one knows the hour except my Father in heaven.”

God will judge at the time of his choosing.

Personally I view this as fluid. There is no predetermined day of this world’s end, God has not decided to do it yet, but the moment he does, all things will be fulfilled.

However, when you read the KJV, it says something different. Neither are in direct contradiction of the other, but the KJV reveals something that must be fulfilled first before the judgment comes. It is still determined by God alone.

“When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.”

This reveals one of two things revealed in the New Testament, or both, if you will, for I cannot see one taking place without the other. There may be those who disagree.

I shared this with my dad who has been my spiritual guide in my childhood, emphasizing “receive the congregation” and he answered, “Of course, God will not judge till everyone he has chosen to be saved is. He will wait till that number is full.”

This fits in with the New Testament revelation that God is waiting till all who must be saved are.

I perceived the other aspect of New Testament revelation commonly referred to as the rapture Paul writes about to the Thessalonians.

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

All of these are at The Lord’s choosing and it is good to be encouraged by his word.

You may choose to encourage one another using any of these aspects. Please do.

Interesting. I was looking at the key words, and the Hebrew words used after I read this post of yours. Then I looked at where else the same words are found, and this is what I found:

Hosea 1:2-3
The beginning of the LORD speaking by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take (Hebrew: lâqach) to yourself a wife of adultery and children of adultery. For the land has utterly gone lusting away from the LORD.
So he went and took (lâqach) Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, who conceived and bore him a son.

H3947
lâqach law-kakh'
A primitive root; to take (in the widest variety of applications): - {accept} {bring} {buy} carry {away} {drawn} {fetch} {get} {infold} X {many} {mingle} {place} receive ({-ing}) {reserve} {seize} send {for} take ({away} {-ing} {up}) {use} win.

Leviticus 23:2
Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, The feasts (Hebrew: mô‛êd) of the LORD, which you shall proclaim, holy convocations, even these are My appointed feasts.

H4150מ
mô‛êd {mo-ade'}
From H3259; properly an {appointment} that {is} a fixed time or season; specifically a festival; conventionally a year; by {implication} an assembly (as convened for a definite purpose); technically the congregation; by {extension} the place of meeting; also a signal (as appointed beforehand): - appointed ({sign} {time}) (place {of} solemn) {assembly} {congregation} ({set} solemn) {feast} ({appointed} due) {season} solemn ({-ity}) {synagogue} (set) time (appointed).

Psalm 75:2-3 Modern King James Version (verse 2), King James Version (verse 3)
When I take (Hebrew: lâqach) the appointed time (Hebrew: mô‛êd), I will judge uprightly. The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved (Hebrew: mug): I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

H4127
mûg moog
A primitive root; to {melt} that {is} literally (to {soften} flow {down} {disappear}) or figuratively (to {fear} faint): - {consume} {dissolve} (be) faint ({-hearted}) melt ({away}) make soft.

Psalm 75:2-10 Modern King James Version
"When I take the appointed time, I will judge uprightly. The earth and all its people are melting away; I hold up its pillars. Selah.

I said to the proud, Do not boast; and to the wicked, Do not lift up the horn; do not lift up your horn on high; nor speak with a stiff neck.

For lifting up comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge; He puts down one and sets up another.

For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed; and He pours out from it; but the dregs of it, all the wicked of the earth shall drain its dregs and drink.

But I will declare forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. Also I will cut off all the horns of the wicked; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up."

So the idea of melting or dissolving when the Lord takes His appointed time occurs in 2 Peter 3:10-11, and the cup of wine in Revelation 14:10:

Psalm 75:2-10 Modern King James Version
When I take the appointed time, I will judge uprightly. The earth and all its people are melting away; I hold up its pillars. Selah.

2 Peter 3:10-11
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat. And the earth and the works in it will be burned up. Then, all these things being about to be dissolved, what sort ought you to be in holy behavior and godliness?"

Revelation 14:9-10
"And a third angel followed them, saying with a great voice, If anyone worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark in his forehead or in his hand,
he also will drink of the wine of the anger of God, having been mixed undiluted in the cup of His wrath. And he will be tormented by fire and brimstone before the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb."

So when you say,
God will judge at the time of his choosing.

Personally I view this as fluid. There is no predetermined day of this world’s end, God has not decided to do it yet, but the moment he does, all things will be fulfilled.

then I disagree, because of what I said above - it looks to me like God does have an appointed time.

Also, the Revelation gives an appointed time - by first telling of the beast that is to rise from the abyss, what this beast will get up to, and how long it will continue before it is defeated by Christ at His return and then thrown in the lake of fire.

The New Testament tells us of the resurrection of the saints - of those who had died in Christ - at the time of the return of Christ.

So to me, it seems rather as if it is not fluid, and God knows the end from the beginning. He knows what year the beast will ascend out of the abyss, and he knows the day and hour of His appointed time, His appointed time for the judgment spoken of in Psalm 75 (and in passages such as 2 Peter 3 and the Revelation), and this has also been revealed to us - just not "the day or hour", because we do not know the year that the beast will ascend out of the abyss. However, for those who are watching:

"For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety! Then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman with child. And they shall not escape.

But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day should overtake you like a thief.

You are all the sons of light and the sons of the day. We are not of the night, or of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be calm."
(1 Thessalonians 2-6)

I believe that the Lord gave us the Olivet Discourse and the Revelation because God knows the appointed time, and He wants us to watch.

Thanks for your post though and the obvious intent of your post, which is to be encouraging.

Thank you for your reply FOTG, since God knows all things, I believe he knows when the end will be, I just don't see that he appointed it as a time, rather as a set of conditions.

I say this because I have learned, from Scripture, the nature of God who is ever gracious.

Consider what he says through Ezekiel,

Eze 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Eze 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

and,

Eze 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

And through Peter,

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Then consider these through the prayer of Solomon,

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

And in the accounting of Jonah and the city of Nineveh.

A turning from sin to righteousness always defers judgment.

However, God knows all things and he knows of the heart's unwillingness to repent, therefore we can be sure judgment will come.

Notice that we are not given a time (an appointed day) but many signs (sets of conditions and events) that reveal his coming.

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. [And even the rest of Matthew 24.]

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Rev 6:11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

And many others, I'm sure, that escape me for the moment but are there if you care to look.

And so we watch for signs rather than a day, always being ready for the coming of the Lord.

Should there be, as many hope for, a revival: a resurgence in faith and righteousness, that appointment may well be deferred but, because of the condition of mankind, the Father knows it must happen.

Right now, by the signs I see, I believe that time is very close. I picture the world conditions as those in Psalm 2 and so I ask, are you ready?

How much clearer do the signs have to be? However only God has the power over the end of Corruption, so make sure you are ready.
