The sinner's prayer has become my favorite repetitious prayer in Christianity. I believe this prayer acts as a reminder of our mission statement as Christians for our earthly visit by getting right to the heart of our affirmations. If you are unfamiliar with the sinner's prayer it goes a little something like this:

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness
I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead
I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior
Guide my life and help me to fulfill your will
In your name
Amen

It acknowledges that I am a sinner in need of Christ's Salvation. It acknowledges belief in the Foundation of Christianity that is found in Christ's death and Resurrection to absolve the sins of the world. It acknowledges full and complete trust in Jesus and a willingness to live as He lived. It then promises to turn one's life over to the will and guidance of Jesus through the Holy Spirit and submission to His will for us here. Why pray it once when it can be prayed every day (^:

Sure, it's a nice reminder...but do you need to be saved everyday?

You act as if salvation is dependent on submission to His wil...is it? I don't think so. (keep in mind I believe we should be submissive to Gods will...but not for the purpose of gaining salvation)

Submission to His will is the evidence of salvation. If we don't desire His will, I doubt that we can call ourselves Christians.

John 14
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Luke 11
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

1 John 2
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 4
2 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Salvation produces obedience. The old man is dead.

I love the prayer and enjoy praying it every day. Sometimes twice a day. Sometimes it can even become background noise in my mind.

God bless you :)

OK, I have no problem with that..but...when you posted "I know I am a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness" The forgiveness wasn't for salvational purposes. Perhaps you know that and I'm being nit-picky.
I often ask for forgiveness...but for the purpose of fellowship or relationship. We're already saved and don't need to be saved again.

It's a suitable prayer to pray after realizing that sin has been committed.

* It begins with repentance.
* It gives recollection of one's salvation.
* It expresses the desire to follow the Lord in one's life.
* It follows that desire with the request for continuous guidance in order to fulfill God's will.

Points 2-3 can be prayed every day when there hasn't been any sin committed, yet.
