I started a thread in general theology about this but I felt I needed to add it here as well.
I have a burden on my heart to pray for the leaders of churches today....I learned a long time ago that pastors, teachers, and leaders of churches suffer great persecution and even temptation. Sometimes we as "sheep" put too much expectation on the pastors/leaders to be responsible for the direction of the church. Gossiping, backbiting, anger and resentment towards your pastor is a sin. Let's remember, they have trials and tribulations as well and without our prayers they become discouraged and it can even have an effect on his teaching.

The Bible tells us to pray for our leaders and those in authority....
Well I went and found this wonderful list of intercessory prayers for pastors/leaders
This was one I liked alot:
7. Jesus, keep our pastor and leaders holy in every way (1 Peter 1:16). Protect our shepherd from seducing spirits, especially when he is tired and hard-pressed. Give Pastor comrades to help protect him, and to share with in personal holiness (James 4:7). As he draws near to You, draw near to him (James 4:8). Cancel the power of out-of-the-will-of-God prayers and. curses against our shepherd. Nullify sin’s effect exerted against him (Ephesians 1:22). Amen.

Pastoral burnout: Pastor Burnout Statistics

According to the New York Times (August 1, 2010) "Members of the clergy now suffer from obesity, hypertension and depression at rates higher than most Americans. In the last decade, their use of antidepressants has risen, while their life expectancy has fallen. Many would change jobs if they could."

When our God is a consuming fire (Heb 12:29), part of the reason for "burnout" is because we are leaning on our own strength instead of His. Seek to acquire, a burning desire, for a holy fire...from God. Father, may the pastors, teachers, counselors, etc., find the time to acquire the fire through spending time with You in prayer and the prayerful meditation of Your Word. Like David in 1 Samuel 30:6, may they encourage themselves in You. Greater than Aaron and Hur supporting the arms of Moses, may You support the spirits of these leaders in the churches of today. May they not just be another statistic, but may they be comforted and empowered by Your Spirit, for Your glory, and the blessing of the people under them. Hebrews 13:7,17. Amen.

Our spiritual leaders are the #1 target of the enemy because he knows if he can get them to fall morally he could potentially take out an entire ministry or church. They are relentlessly attacked and it is our duty to pray for them.
