i've been reading on Jabez, and his geneaology is sort of missing....anybody know it? And i've seen versions of his prayer. Anybody know what his prayer really was? Each version, or most of them don't seem to fit at all.

Another one on my heart is Job, and how utterly misunderstood he was (but that's another thread)

Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

There are different versions of what Jabez prayed. Which version is this? And what is your take on what Jabez prayed for?

Septuagint

4:10 And Igabes [Jabez] called on the God of Israel, saying, O that thou wouldest indeed bless me, and enlarge my coasts, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest make me know that thou wilt not grieve me! And God granted him all that he asked.

He was more famous v9, so God granted.

Maybe he was of Ashur v4. Son of Hezron. Son of Reuben. Son of Israel (Jacob). (speculating)

This is the version of Jabez's prayer that is closest to what 98cwitr posted in post #3 and what i read in my Geneva Bible:

Hey! Sorry for the very late reply (didn't see the quote those many moons ago). I take the prayer to ask for a few things: That God would be with him in life, that God would help him obtain more land, that God would keep him safe.

As long as our prayers are in line with God's Will, they will most certainly come true!

I agree.

I especially like the prayer because Jabez got right to the point. He had been in such pain all of his life, and He apparently trusted in the goodness and mercy of God to even ask. He was appealing to God's very character, which is very pleasing to God.

Hi brinny. Long time no hear ehehe.
I hope this is off topic and if it is, I can delete it, but since as mentioned above concerning no lineage, Melchizedek's lineage is also missing.....

Kindgdom Bible Studies Royal Priesthood Part 17

In Genesis, chapter fourteen, we have one of the most intriguing stories in the Bible, that of Abram's encounter with Melchizedek, king of Salem, and "the priest of the Most High God." In the Genesis story Melchizedek is a strange and mysterious figure. He flashes across the scene like a meteor.
There is no heralding of his appearance, nor any mention of its results. He arrives out of the blue; there is no account of his family; there is nothing about his birth, his descent, his life, his work, or his death.
He simply arrives. We learn only that he was king of Salem and priest of the Most High God.....

Salem is also mentioned where the LORD's temple/sanctuary is and I believe Salem means "peace"?.

Psa 76:2
And His tabernacle is in Salem, And His habitation in Zion.

Jerusalem also has "salem" in it along with the prefix word "hierou" which can mean priest or temple?

2419. Hierou-salem hee-er-oo-sal-ame' of Hebrew origin (3389); Hierusalem (i.e. Jerushalem), the capitol of Palestine:--Jerusalem. Compare 2414.
2411. hieron hee-er-on' neuter of 2413; a sacred place, i.e. the entire precincts (whereas 3485 denotes the central sanctuary itself) of the Temple (at Jerusalem or elsewhere):--temple.
4532. Salem sal-ame' of Hebrew origin (8004); Salem (i.e. Shalem), a place in Palestine:--Salem.
8004 Shalem shaw-lame' the same as 8003; peaceful;

2418. hierou-rgeo hee-er-oorg-eh'-o from a compound of 2411 and the base of 2041; to be a temple-worker, i.e. officiate as a priest (figuratively):--minister.

Salem/salhm <4532>,

Whoa! That is DEEP. What an intriguing study...

especially where you posted that the tabernacle/temple is in Salem, and that Salem means "peace".
