“Come, let us worship and bow down,
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.
Today, if you would hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
When your fathers tested Me,
They tried Me, though they had seen My work.
For forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
Therefore I swore in My anger,
Truly they shall not enter into My rest.” (Psalms 95:6-11 NASB1995)

What does it mean to “worship” our Lord? We are to present our bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is our spiritual service of worship. So this involves us living morally pure lives, being conformed to Christ’s likeness. We are not to be conformed to the patterns of this sinful world, but we are to be transformed in heart and mind by the renewing of our mind so that we may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect (see Romans 12:1-2). For biblical worship of God is love for God which results in us dying to sin and obeying his commands.

By God-persuaded faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to God and to his righteousness, in walks of obedience to his commands. Thus, we are no longer to allow sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God. (see Romans 6:1-23; cf. Luke 9:23-26; Acts 26:18; Ephesians 4:17-24)

And to bow down, and to kneel before the Lord our Maker is not in form only. We can literally bow down and kneel in physical form and still not worship God at all. For worship is not outward only, such as with the singing of songs and the raising of hands and the swaying back and forth to the music. Just because you are in a “worship service” singing “worship songs,” it does not indicate that you are truly worshiping the Lord. True worship of God involves us surrendering our lives to him, submitting to his Lordship, the forsaking of our sinful practices, and walks of obedience to our Lord.

But if you fall short of this, and either you have never abandoned your life of sin, or you have returned to walking in your sinful ways, don’t blame God, as though he somehow failed. God didn’t abandon you. You abandoned him. It is not his responsibility to make you obey him. That is your responsibility. He will grant you all that you need to submit to his Lordship, and to walk in obedience to his commands, and to forsake your sinful practices, but you must be the one to deny self, put sin to death daily, by the Spirit, and to walk in obedience to his commands, in his power, by his grace given to you.

For the grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return. We are no longer to be living according to the sinful passions of our flesh, doing whatever our flesh desires. For if sin is what we practice, and not obedience to God, and not righteous and holy living, we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of what our lips have professed. For lip service only to God will not assure us entry into his heavenly kingdom. He will turn us away.

So, if you are reading this today, and you have not been living for the Lord in a walk of obedience to his commands, but you are still deliberately and habitually committing sinful acts against God, and against other humans, do not turn away from this message and then keep living however you have been living. For God is true to his word. And his word will not fail. And his word definitely teaches that if we make sin our practice, and not obedience to God, that we will die in our sins and we will face the wrath of God. We will not be welcomed into his eternal kingdom. So please take this to heart!

For Our Nation

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
