More than 500 Bibles have been purchased for use in Advanced Placement (AP) Government classrooms across the state of Oklahoma.

The move marks the first purchase of Bibles specifically intended for use as an "academic and literary resource" in U.S. public schools and is a key part of a broader initiative aimed at providing Bibles to every classroom in Oklahoma, according to State Superintendent Ryan Walters.

The Bible purchase, which will be distributed specifically to AP Government classrooms, is part of a push to purchase55,000 King James Version Bibles with the United States Pledge of Allegiance, the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights documents included.

It is pretty crazy that the state requirements for the bible were specifically written so that they could only be satisfied by the God Bless the USA bible that Trump promotes and makes money from. These are $60 a pop for KJV with no commentary - but of course have the founding documents and the required 'leather or leather-like' cover.

I think the superintendent is lobbying for a position in the Trump administration. What better way than with money?

If there's one thing that will make students "want" to study the Bible, it's providing them with a version that relies on a four hundred year old English vernacular. .....................................................

Walters couldn't just splurge for a modern translation like the New King James Version, or even a parallel English Bible, at the very least?

No ‘splurge’ needed. Using a modern translation could easily be less expensive than the ‘God Bless the USA’ KJV bibles that they purchased for $49 each. But then Trump wouldn’t get a cut.

I think students should be required to hand copy the entire Bible and memorize it, just like monks in medieval monasteries.
That would make them appreciate modern technology! ;)

Wait... this isn't about Amish students?
LOL! Apparently, the Amish have their own Bible, one side in German and the other side in English. I watched a YouTube video about it the other day.

Progressive Christians most offended.
The Orthodox Study Bible is a beautiful Bible they could have used since it includes the missing books from Protestant Bibles, but I’m getting off topic ;)

I’m not ok with this to be honest. Separation of Church and state.
I am not either now there is nothig wrong with reading the Bible in school, but to require it in public school is an issue.

Yeah, it was banned in 1963 because of the late atheist activist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, ran her mouth at SCOTUS.

The KJV is only $1.25 at Dollar Tree (Apocrypha, unfortunately, not included).
That’s unfortunate.

I’m not a huge fan of the KJV, to be honest. Find the language a bit archaic.
