Have you ever experienced odors or smells just out of the blue that seem to have a spiritual significance?
I will often be reading or sitting with my wife, and suddenly, I will catch a breath of potpourri or flowers. It will be there for a breath, maybe two, and then be gone. Usually, it will come back in a minute or two and maybe a third time. The first time I can remember it happening was shortly after the death of a friend from Covid. We were praying for him and hoping for his eternal fate. Later, this extraordinary odor came to us. We both smelled it at the same time. It came to my wife so strong that she sat up in her chair and looked around for the source. Potpourri. We took it to mean our friend was Okay and went to the "desirable" place. I experienced it again just a short while ago. It came and went three or four times, and it occurred to me it was an angel. I have "sensed" the arrival of angels before, but not with the odor. During a prayer meeting, I just "felt" the angel enter the room through the window behind me and proceed to the center of the room. I noted it to the other members. I am researching Biblical references now.

Yes, it has happened a few times.

The first time smelled pleasant fragrance was at the end of a church service and I looked around to see if someone had walked behind me, etc. Dont recall there being breaks of time but overall it was very brief. Viewed as a way for The Lord to make Himself known.

As with this type of thing - there's the flip side. Also, have smelled sulfur at times. The pastor said usually you can tell what folks are being delivered from. Brimstone is used in KJV such as "Then the Lord rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of the heavens" Gen 19:24. Haven't researched.

Angels "For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]." Psa 91:11 They may not be with us 24/7 but according to Scripture, they're often present.

In my opinion, this is all superstition. Try not to include angels and their odors with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, it has no place in a Christian's walk. Blessings.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I believe in angels and that we can sense their presence at different seasons. Thanks to God for small comforts and encouragement.

What it is I don't know but yes it has happened and seems to represent good.
Yes... I agree. If angels are real (and they are) and come from God's power and God's presence, we should not be surprised that we detect something of that presence among us. People who possess the spiritual gift of "discerning of spirits" are sometimes able to actually see these angels. That would be such a cool experience.

I once worked at a Christian ministry and smelled something putrid and upon assessing it, I sensed that it was some kind of demon. I cast it away in the name of Jesus and the smell went away. It was something in a hallway, nothing else unordinary. Smell can just be a way that God can open the spirit realm for someone. Sight is far more common, but I do believe it can happen.

Interesting. I have also heard of that kind of thing. However, I would not want to encounter one.

That workplace had issues. I once by the spirit was directed to the railroad crossing behind the building. There I commanded a demon out. I later asked the owner (A broadcasting station) if there was anything unusual at that crossing. She told me several people had died at that crossing. The smell though was unusual. Decades later, I never had anything else from smell that was spiritually based. I have heard of sweet fragrances though as someone in here mentioned. Likely from the discerning of spirits, but lots of administrations and operations. The most coveted I think are open visions but I myself have never had that. I do think it is good to inquire and learn about gifts though. God bless you in all of that.

I've never had smell while awake, but I've had it in dreams. I understood it, in the context of my dreams, as the spiritual essence coming out of another.

In the scriptures below, appears it can take on different perceptions, depending on the individual

2 cor 2:
14But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. 15Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. 16To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

I have a natural body odor of potpourri.

I took the odor some time after adopting a lifestyle of heavy exercise and eating little food on a daily basis. Self denial and carrying your cross in the most literal sense.

Foul odors are associated with evil spirits. Traditional method of consecration by the Israelites also rid items of harmful bacteria and harmful bacteria sometimes give off foul odors.

You may be interested in looking up (Odor of Sanctity).

The idea that a sweet scent can indicate the presence of a guardian angel is a belief held in various spiritual and religious traditions. Many people interpret unusual scents, especially pleasant ones like floral or sweet fragrances, as signs of spiritual presence or guidance.

Once smelt a sweet aroma while reading this at dinner time:

The woman says

12 “The king was at his table.
My perfume gave off a sweet smell.
13 The one who loves me is like a small bag of myrrh
resting between my breasts.
14 He is like henna flowers
from the vineyards of En Gedi.”
~Song 1:12-14 (NIrV)

I'm no king nor anyone like one, but this was very confidence inspiring as it happened. :)

A few months ago as I was resting, just being quiet and still, I smelled a strong smell of an ashtray. It was only for a second but it got my attention. I haven't smelled an ashtray in decades!

I have smelled sweet smells much more often more recently and I've learned that it means the Holy Spirit is present.
