I am always amazed to think of Adam and Noah's lifetimes being so close together. According to Genesis 5, Adam had only died 126 years before Noah was born. Of course Adam died at 930 years old.

Did Methusula die in the flood? He could have. Here are the years of death for Adams descendants to Noah. I have put them in Adam years. In other words, the number of years after the creation of man, Adam, that Adam's descendants, (to Noah) died. I find them interesting.

Adam 0 - 930
Seth 130 - 1042
Enosh 235 - 1140
Kenan 325 - 1235
Mahalalel 395 - 1290
Jared 460 - 1422
Enoch 622 - 987 (Enoch does not die but walks with God)
Methuselah 687 - 1656
Lamech 874 - 1651
Noah 1056
Shem, Ham, Japheth 1556

I find these numbers interesting. Adam could have held Noah's dad Lamech on his lap. Adam could have met a great number of the people who died in the flood. Originally I had the vision of Adam dying long before Noah.

What do you think?

wow :)
I have been rereading the account of Noah and the antediluvian patriarchs

I have heard others say that Methuselah might have died in the flood... but most of those who say that are not Catholic
if we look at Catholic theology we can see that the prayer of the Saints has a real effect.

I think the death of Methuselah was the last straw that broke the camels back so to speak
the righteousness of Methuselah was holding back the Judgment of God and when he left the earth, the Flood started

this is just speculation, but it seems to fit with Biblical themes

Hello Rhamiel,

I do not know of Methusuelah being a Saint. I did a bible scan on him and came up short. Please tell us about him or give a link. I would like to know more.

The Bible does not say how Methuselah died, if I recall. So we can not be certain... lost soul or final straw... or other.

true, like I said, that was only speculation

but a lot of people seem to assume that he died in the Flood

Indeed many do. I personally am unaffected by the specific timing and manner of his death, that's between him and the Lord. Too often we (me too) read things into the scripture in order to fit our preconceived or desired outcomes/agendas.

I have been googling. Here is what wikipedia has on Methuselah. This book of Jasher pops up again. I know someoneelse here at OBOB had used this in the past. It says it is from the 17 century. I assume that is A.D. How, when and where did this author, of 'Jasher' come from? Anyway, he seems to claim that Methuselah tried to persuade the people of the flood era to repent.

Methuselah was 243 years old when Adam died.

Methuselah

Methuselah appears in two important Jewish works from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. In the Book of Enoch,[6] Enoch (as the narrator) tells Methuselah of the coming worldwide flood and of the future Messianic kingdom. The Book of Jubilees names Methuselah's mother and his wife – both are named Edna – and his daughter-in-law, Betenos, Lamech's wife.
The 17th century midrashic Sefer haYashar ("Book of Jasher")[7] describes Methuselah with his grandson Noah attempting to persuade the people of the earth to return to godliness.[8] All other very long-lived people died, and Methuselah was the only one of this class left.[9] God planned to bring the flood after all the men who walked in the ways of the Lord had died (besides Noah and his family).[10] Methuselah lived until the ark was built, but died before the flood, since God had promised he would not be killed with the unrighteous.[9] The Sefer haYashar gives Methuselah's age at death as 960[11] and does not synchronize his death with the flood.
The Sumerian king list mentions a character named Ubaratutu who seems almost identical to Methuselah. He was the son of Enmunderana the Sumerian Enoch, and king of Sumeria until the flood swept over the land. Although their ages are different their father and year of death remain the same
