I was wondering if anyone here has used the generic brands of salon products (like Redken, Matrix, Paul Mitchell...etc). For the past couple of months, I've been using these products. I found them at Sally Beauty Supply. I've used fake Biolage (that was OK, but I think I need a thicker conditioner), Nexxus Therrape/Humectress (I liked the products, but I think I'm allergic to the chemicals), and Matrix Sleek and Smooth (just bought that today, haven't tried it yet). For those who've used both the real thing and the generic, do you think the cheap stuff is as good as their more expensive counterparts? I've never used the salon brands as I can't afford them. But I think months that I've been using the generic, I find that my hair is in much better condition than it was when I used drugstore brands. And for those who've had success with the generic brands/fellow Sally shoppers, do you think there's a difference between the Generic Value Products Brand and the brands that look like the acutual salon brand (Slickline for Smooth and Sleek, Bioterra for Biolage, Aura for Aveda...)

I just use the drug store types. I like the Pantene brand of conditioner. I use VO5 shampoos. Of course, I don't color or perm my hair, either. If I did, I would consider the more expensive varieties. If you have better luck with the Sally Beauty Supply brands, I'd stick with what works for you. I understand a hot oil treatment once in a while works wonders for hair that has been damaged.
