Matthew 15 1-20
That Which Defiles We often judge each other by our actions, by our traditions, what we eat, when we eat, and where we go. In the gospel of Matthew (the which defiles) Jesus speaks to his disciples and tells them its not what goes in someone’s mouth that defiles them but rather what comes out of it. Now what does this mean? Jesus does not judge us by the food we eat, the food we eat enters us then leaves us. In this case he is referring to the Pharisees, the Pharisees rebuked Jesus and his disciples for not washing their hands before eating. In this case this is a tradition. What we can be encouraged by is that the things in life that define us such as traditions or the foods we eat do not have any barring on whether we go to heaven or hell. What Jesus is more interested in and what we will be judged on is what comes out of our mouths rather than what goes in it. Whatever comes from the mouth is from the heart, inthis case our actions. that is what Jesus judges us on, through the heart and out the mouth comes our actions murder, adultery, theft, malice. We are judged on what the heart prompts us to do, in our hearts is where we have some of the biggest discussions to ourselves. Often those are the times we ponder on our decisions, deep down in our hearts we often know what the correct decision is. God lives inside of us which enables us to have a conscience, however theirs that other part of us that Satan dictates to. he’s in our thoughts and in our minds niggling at us and egging us on to do what he thinks is right. When theirs a build up of hate, anger and frustration that is when satan strikes which leads to some of our decisions made. In order to fight these thoughts we need the grace of God we need God in our lives and in our hearts in order to make us pure. When Jesus speaks to us he speaks love, mercyand peace .we can learn to discern between them better, when God himself is with usfighting our thoughts and battles. prayer is so important, it’s best to run to God and lean on his word, rather than run to our feelings and emotions, our feelings and emotions will always give us the opposite answer to what we really seek and to what pleases God. Thank God he sacrificed his only begotten son for us to take away the sins of the world. God gave us a gateway for us to get to him through his son Jesus Christ our lord and saviour, a chance for us to repent of ours sins and turn away from them. No sin is unforgivable but blasphemy against the Holt spirit is the unforgivable sin, to constantly reject Jesus and the holy spirit in our lives, which leads to a life of total separation from God. If we seek our lord and ask for his help to be filled with the holy spirit and submit to its law although we will always fall short of Gods glory, but do our absolute best through a sincere heart to repent and walk away from our old self, the lord will wash away our sins and remember them no more, webecome blameless and righteous through Jesus Christ our lord and saviour. Who saved us with his love and Grace. For it is written: Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat! Jesus replied, and why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.Dont you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, Adultery, Sexualising immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
