My bros and sisters who are voting 3rd party, why are you voting 3rd party over Kamala and Trump?

Can you express why you are supporting your third party candidate? What does he/she stand for, what has he/she accomplished that garners your vote over the Democrats and Republicans?

For myself, I may vote 3rd party, cos I am tired of the woke stuff, but also not a fan of the rhetoric from the current Republican party.

I am Canadian but if i were American I would do the same for the same reasons.
Amen to that. I want a party that is pro-life from womb to tomb (except in emergencies such as incest and rape), pro-environment, anti-woke, and focuses on merit, not race.

Because there needs to be a 'center' in American political life and it is rapidly vanishing in the polarization of the two big parties. Granted Trump is not as nefarious as he is made out to be by the Left, he's just too far Right. And the other guys are farther Left than ANY other candidates from the Democratic Party. Gene McCarthy himself would be spinning in his grave.

(I met Gene McCarthy. He was one of my senators. I even liked him. Humphrey was better but Gene was OK. He wasn't as dangerous as McGovern, who would be cheering on the Harris/Walz ticket from his grave.)

We need a pro-life centrist party in the USA, maybe just to pick up the pieces after civil war. The ASP gets my vote, even if this year they can't win because everybody is voting for Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

Amen, brother. Trump is a bit too far-right, and his mannerisms are not very classy. And yes, the democrats have gone off the rails. Democrats are sadly praising that awful Olympics opening ceremony. The parties are not what they used to be 20+ years ago.

The ASP might get my vote in 2024, cos they are pro-life and anti-woke.

Democrats used to be sensible, such as Barbara Jordan. She had common sense, as she supported carefully vetting immigrants, and was a Democrat (back when the Democrats were closer to the center of the political lines):

Democrats used to be pro-life, way back in the Humphrey era at least. I saw that changing in the 1990s when the active abortion supporting members began their attacks on members of their own party to deny representation to any voice but that in support of abortion. I was a Democrat back then and was essentially pushed out the door.

It seems that the 1990s ruined politics on the left, and Democrats began attacking themselves, while the 2010s ruined the right, when GOP members began attacking themselves. We need to go back to that Humphrey era again.

There is an airport building named after Humphrey:

I have voted third party in Congressional and Senatorial races in my state--both libertarian and Green Party.

I did so because the incumbents were unopposed by Democrats.

My state runs 70% Republican in many races, and the only way I could register my complete and total opposition to them was to vote third party.

In these situations, the third party candidates easily get up to 35% without spending a dime--the votes are opposition.

My son was considering third party in the presidential race until today, but two things changed his mind: Tim Walz, and RFK, Jr. leaving a bear carcass on a bike in Central Park.

Hey, your son could still vote for Peter Sonski. :)

But yes, in all seriousness, 3rd party does help oppose the Republican party, as in opposition. So, are you also 3rd party for presidents? I voted Democrat in 2020 (my first ever presidential election), vote Republican for police, and may vote 3rd party for president in 2024.

Being blue in a red state means your presidential vote doesn't matter.
My son was iffy about Biden and Harris but loves Tim Walz. I do, too.
I have always voted for the person I felt would be best. I did vote for the elder Bush in 1988.
I had tremendous respect for John McCain. Voting for Obama required a little soul searching, but Sara Palin sealed the deal for Obama.

John McCain seemed like a good politician, same with Mitt Romney.

I do wish we voted by popular vote, instead of electoral, but hey, we live in a republic.

Of course no third party candidate has any chance in this election. Some people may ask why throw your vote away? First off, most state outcomes will not be close. If you live in Ohio, PA, or Wi then yes, you better think real hard. If you live in a deep red or blue state when you vote third party it signals to both parties that you are unhappy and in some cases they do take notice and in the future may even change some views in hopes of assimilating you.

For the future there is one way a third party could swing an election or even possible win. Since resources are tight, a third party should focus on all their efforts in as few as one or two states. If they win and their is no majority in the Electoral College, then the top three candidates are the only ones considered. If the GOP and Dems are at each other throats, the Presidency could go to the Third Party especially if the candidate is centrist. Unlikely yes, but if just one state would rebel and become a third party state, the competition would make the Dems and GOP better.

Sadly, I live in WI, so it would make less sense to vote 3rd party, though, I am still tempted to. Maybe ranked choice voting would be a better idea, so that the third party could have a better chance, though that would require huge changes to the US law.

I would like to see a third party gain some ground. I dislike what I consider extremist tendencies in both parties. There's very little cooperation, which makes no sense to me. I was going to vote third party because just a few weeks ago it looked like this was Trump's election to lose and Biden was a non-starter. I cannot in good conscience vote for Trump. But things have changed, for the better I think. I'm prayerfully considering where my little vote will go.

All we can do is pray, and cast our votes. Peter Sonski is 3rd party, and has good Christian values (Christian Democracy) instead of fascist nationalism, which Trump wants to force onto people.

Thank you for the suggestion. I looked at his site and like some of his positions and the general observation that the two parties have moved to the extremes. I didn't know ASP was a thing, to be honest.
