Hey everyone,

Recently I became friends with a guy on another forum who, well I don't know who he'd been listening to, but he just detested our beloved Pope John Paul II. So I started talking to him, describing some of the pope's beautiful humanitarian efforts and talking about his moral integrity, and this guy realizes he was wrong, and now he wants to learn more abourt Pope John Paul II!! So, he asked me for some books but I do not know any. I was hoping you all could help me out. Some books that are more or less biographies, emphasizing his efforts to bring peace and love to the world.

Thanks :)

I saw one at the library and read it there, but for the life of me cannot remember the name of it. It was his own autobiography though. And it would be good for someone like you're friend, because it does not go into a lot of doctrinal stuff, JPtG just tells about his life and what led him to the priesthood. Dog gone, I read the whole thing and cannot think of the name of it. It was a fairly short book, too, which is another reason it would be good. I'll try to find the name. Threshold of hope, or something like that. I'll try to find out.

To the OP,

Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II -- by George Weigel

Good, but long biography written by a conservative RC theologian.

Michelle,

I think you're referring to Gift and Mystery: On the Fiftieth Anniversary of My Priestly Ordination.

Two other books to read:
Pope John Paul II: In My Own Words by Pope John Paul II
For the Children: Words of Love and Inspiration from His Holiness Pope John II by Pope John Paul II
