The truth of limited atonement is vital to the Christian Gospel, there's no Gospel without it. See 1 Cor 15:3. It refers specifically to the Death of Christ on the Cross, which death fully satisfied the law and justice of God for not all human beings but only for a certain group, the elect of God, Chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world.

Now let's get one thing understood, when i speak of limited atonement, i don't mean by any means that Christ atoning death is limited in its power, but that its limited in that it doesn't cover or apply to everyone, but only applies to and covers the elect or chosen of God or the Church of God in Christ, or Gods Sheep. Jn 10

Who are the elect? Those who chose Jesus Christ of Nazareth as their Lord and Savior.
Be blessed.

The elect are them whom God has chosen. See Eph 1:4
He had foreknowlede...

elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father (1 Pe 1:2)

and He pre-determined our destiny...

having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself (Eph 1:5)

What's so hard about that?

Jesus' death on the cross took away the sin of the world so any person who wants God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation can have it. They just have to do or meet, the one condition God requires to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life.

Which is to believe in Jesus, believing Jesus is who He says He is The Son of God/ The Messiah, the resurrection and the life.

No one can even see the kingdom of God, much less choose it, until they are born again (Jn 3:3-5).

No one chooses Jesus Christ without the sovereign (as unaccountable as the wind, Jn 3:6-8) new birth of the Holy Spirit.

Peter's statement seems to be clear that election was in accordance to foreknowledge and strongly implies that election did not preceed foreknowledge and that election does not stand on its own without dependence on foreknowledge.

First we repent from unbelief to belief. This is the choice we make. Then we receive His Holy Spirit upon conversion due to our submission to Him. He then chooses us due to our choice. His foreknowledge does not change this fact. I do understand there are other views. I take this view.
Blessings

How can those who cannot even see the kingdom of God apart from the Holy Spirit (Jn 3:3-5) choose
to repent apart from the Holy Spirit (Jn 3:3-5)?

Conversion is the exclusive work of the Holy Spirit on those who, apart from his work in them, cannot even see the kingdom of God (Jn 3:3-5), much less repent to enter it.

That is unresponsive. Foreknowledge is knowing everything before it happens. It means He knows everything about us before we ever existed. And it is clear that His election of us (which occurred before we existed) was in accordance with His foreknowledge of us (which also occurred before we existed).

Actually, the foreknowledge (prognosis) of God is of his own decrees, by which he has previously determined everything that will happen.
God knows what is going to happen because he has decreed that it shall happen.
And it is clear that His election of us (which occurred before we existed) was in accordance with His foreknowledge of us (which also occurred before we existed).
His election of us is according to his decree (which is the subject of his foreknowledge) that we shall be born of God, not just of man (Jn 1:12-13).

It actually makes sense that reformed theology would see foreknowledge in this way. Thanks for enlightening me.

It's about what the word foreknowledge (prognosis) always means when it refers to God. It always refers to his former decrees.
