Hey,

I'm finishing my degree from Bob Jones with a BA in Bible. I'm looking at trying to find an online seminary that is good. Liberty has some awesome looking online programs, that require no-residency, etc... however they're moving toward a conservative, Southern Baptist flair... (though they're supposed to be independent, Fundamental Baptist

I've talked around to some professors on campus and thus far it's been ill feelings towards Liberty. Would I be wrong in obtaining an M.Div. from them? If Biblical Separation as taught by Bob Jones is true, would I be in disobedience? I'm not so certain on the separation issue yet... not just with the possibility of Liberty, but of separation in general...

Hmm, interesting. That's the first I'd heard of this. But as I'm neither a Baptist nor much of a believer in separation, I'll pass on answering.

Liberty is a fairly conservative, syncretistic Baptist school -- meaning they espouse both eternal security and free will. A number of our Pastors have come from there. Given my strong Calvinist commitments I chose to study elsewhere, but -- since you come from Bob Jones -- you'd probably find it a meaningful experience.

Although Liberty is an independent Baptist university, the church that started it has re-entered the Southern Baptist Convention. Liberty is itself a conservative, fundamental school (in its religion department) with solid academics.

I also believe that your education would benefit from getting a different perspective than that of one school.

Pots call kettles black all the time.

Sometimes it's helpful to study a conflicting view. It's the old one sounds correct until the other presents his case.

I am attending Nazarene Bible College. All my classes are online but I am working on a BA in Pastoral Ministries. It certainly has been interesting having more calvinist tendencies and attending an arminian/wesleyan school. For the most part I have enjoyed good discussions that forced the participants to dig into the word and examine our own beliefs while being exposed to well though out opposing arguments. There has only been a couple of outright conflicts, but even those can challenge us and help us grow.

Remember there are no perfect churches and there are no perfect schools.

No offense, but I looked at BJU, and IMO they have swayed away from being fundamental..

However Liberty IMO isnt really a christian seminary anymore, but too close to a regular college..

Seminaries?

I would recommend
Dallas Theological Seminary
Tabernacle Seminary(greenville, sc)

If you are ok with attending a school that was founded by a person who accepted evangelistic campaign contributions from the Ku Klux Klan and believed in racial segregation why would you be worried about attending a school that may not fit into the BJU "Biblical Separation order"?

You are a citizen of a country that use to allow slavery and deny women the right to vote. You better flee the country!

I think you would find the samr oppostion to your Calvinism that you have found at BJU. BJU is very strict in it legalism where you probably won't find that at Liberty. You can get a good education there I am sure but be aware that you will have to go against much of what they teach as a Calvinist. Your theology affects everything you think and the Biblical principle is bad company corrupts good manners. 1Cor. 15:33

I have been there and there are many peoples from all races. Proof is in the pudding. NOT Racist. Take a ride down there for yourself and see what is being done. Don't just trust a forum board. If you cannot tell from the doctrinal statements for yourself, take a ride down. If you cannot discern it after that, maybe you should consider another field for your career. (Not said with any hatred just for consideration) :)
