Lazarus, Mary, and Martha were disciples of the Lord. It is said that Mary is the one who poured out the costly oil upon the feet of the Lord. Martha took care of the necessary practical side of things. Lazarus became a Bishop of the Church, and he eventually died again. His body is kept in the same town he was Bishop of.

According to Christian teaching recorded in the 13th century Golden Legend, Lazarus was the brother of Martha and Mary Magdalene, a Pharisee, but because of the rumoured plots fled for his life to Cyprus. There he later became the first bishop of Kittim, appointed directly by Paul and Barnabas, and lived another thirty years. Further establishing the apostolic nature of Lazarus' appointment was the story that the bishop's pallium was presented to Lazarus by the Virgin Mary, who had woven it herself. Such apostolic connections were central to the claims to autocephaly made by the bishops of Kittim—subject to the patriarch of Jerusalem—during the period 325–413. The church of Kittim was declared (or confirmed) self-governing in 413. Stories say that he would always include something sweet in every meal, but that he was only known to laugh once in that time. That was when he observed someone stealing a clay pot, causing him to smile and say with a laugh, "clay stealing clay".

Wait a minute . . . . :p

Mary of Bethany (my patron Saint), sister of Martha and Lazarus, is not believed by the Orthodox Church to be the same Mary as Mary of Magdala (Magdalene). That is a RCC interpretation (I believe - correct me if I'm wrong).

That's what I know, but I just quoted Wiki as is. Orthodox don't teach Mary Magdalene was the same family as Martha and Lazarus! We don't think that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, either. These Traditions (oh my!) came into practice much later and have no foundation in historical documentation.

Well, by where they lived, Lazarus, Martha and Mary (sister of Lazarus) were probably of the tribe of Judah. Mary Magdalene is from Migdal up west of the northern end of the Sea of Galilee, but by that time the 10 tribes of Israel were long gone. :(

That's my understanding, too. But you wouldn't believe some of the stuff you come up with if you google "Mary Magdalene".
