The original King James Version contained the apocrypha or deuterocanonicals.

Besides the deuterocanonicals?..............I dunno. Have you been listening to a lot of "KJV only" speeches lately?? I'm not sure where else you might be seeing the controversy...

A "Catholic" Bible must be approved by the church. One of the requirements is that it have annotations.
KJV-only people feel that the KJV is the only version "not messed up". Who messed up the other translations, that depends. Some say the Catholics

some say the Masons…
One of the other reasons the KJV-people exalt this version is that it is based on the Masoretic text and on the Received text.

I think the real controversy is between the KJV and any other version, not just Catholic bibles. Most the KJV-onlyists believe that this version was the only one translated from perfect manuscripts -- but those very manuscripts from which KJV comes were compiled by Erasmus, who is Catholic of course. In that respect, the KJV is very much a Catholic bible up to the point in the timeline where the Apocryphal books are removed.

This just brings to mind a KJV only site who wouldn't alow any other version to be quoted. One Catholic always used the Douay-Rheims and they never objected.

It was translated during a period of time in England that would be difficult to label clearly as protestant or Catholic. It is also difficult to say that this handful of translators were of Protestant mindset, and these translators were Catholic, etc... It reads beautifully, and I suspect any Catholic objection stems from some sort of belief that it came form outside the church and no good can come from that or something. In the end, the revised version of the King James is actually probably the best over all translation. You know it as the RSV. So, what’s wrong with the NAB? If the NAB were clothing, it would be practical, sensible, polyester double knit. The Language is so pedestrian that the Holy Spirit actually recoils when it is read in church. Parishioners, upon hearing it, also are ripped from Kingdom of God. Now, I am sort of kidding, but let’s compare the KJV with the NAB. I don’t have the NAB, so can someone quote from it for me this passage, which I will paste from the KJV?

Luke 1: 46-55

And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

One of my big problems with the KJV is that the entire message of God has been changed. From the altering of "saved by faith and works" to "faith alone." This is one of the big differences between Catholics & Protestants.
Also somewhere the idea of Once Saved Always Saved was invented. Again, this differs from what the Catholic Church has taught for almost 2000 years.
I know that the Protestants are broken up into thousands of groups with no one leader and doctrine, but most of the groups have drifted in their core doctrines. This is shown in their stance on abortion, birth control, female leaders and homosexuality, which has changed over the decades. Again, the Catholic Church has kept the same faith teachings. Maybe it's just me, but I don't belive in doctrine by popular vote.

The KJV and the Douay-Rheims (Catholic) Bible share an interesting history. The Douay Bible came out before the King James, and it was one of many Bibles that the KJV translators read while they prepared their text. And the Challoner revision of the Douay Bible (1752) was heavily influenced by the KJV (Challoner was a convert from Protestantism).

Does the Catholic Church still produce the Original version Douay-Rheims and not the Challoner Version or not? I'm curious as I would like to eventually purchase an original styled one if possible, because I would prefer to obtain an original one over a Challoner one.

We normally read RSV in my parish.
However, evenign prayer is done in KJV, so that passage if read liturgically, would be read in KJV, since everyoen is familliar with it in that language from evenign prayer. Reading it in RSV would be distracting.
