Whatsup?
Kanye Wests song, "Jesus Walks" just got re-released as the title track on the "Jarhead" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

I have been looking for any excuse to get this song back on the radio and as you know, songs that are on soundtracks often get played on the radio.

Anyway I have only heard it on tv. on the Movie Trailer for "Jarhead" but I think this puts us in a really great position to call our local radio stations and VOTE for this song, since it is the "Tital Track" for the Movie.

This song needs to get back on the radio, secular radio, where it was in the first place, but got very little play because of its context...

Some of the Lyrics are...

"Jesus Walks", "God show me the way because the Devils tryin to bring me down."
"They say I can rap about anything except for Jesus, that means sex, lies, videotape, but if I rap about God my record won't get played."
"The way that Kathee Lee needed Regis thats the way ya'll need Jesus."
"I hope this brings the day I'm dreaming about, when I'm in the club and everybodys screaming out "Jesus Walks."

So, everybody who reads this do what I'm gonna do....write your local secular rap and hip hop stations and tell them that you want to hear the song from the "Jarhead" motion picture soundtrack, "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West.
You have to put it in that context of the Movie Jarhead because the song "Jesus Walks" was already released almost two years ago, and on the radio several years ago, and the D.J's will just tell you that.

Here is a copy of the letter I'm gonna write to my local station...

Whatsup? I am requesting that you guys start playing the Kanye West song
"Jesus Walks" from the new movie Soundtrack for "Jarhead." I love that song! Thanks!

Something like that. Just go online and type in Rap and Hip Hop stations as keywords in your city, and go to that stations website. When you get there there will be all these options including a place where you can request songs. Don't go there. Go to the place that says either D.J's or D.J. staff. And email the D.J's you want, and request it there. I usually email all the d.j.'s when I do something like this. They are usually very friendly and always write back. The request only page is usually for songs that are on their top 40 list.

Alright guys, thanks for reading all of this. This is a real opportunity to get a song that glorifies Christ back on the secular airwaves...Oh and by the way, for those of you who don't know, Kanye West, the guy who wrote this song, is one of the most popular rappers out there right now, so these stations know exactally who he is, his songs are all over the charts. So the radio stations will probabily be happy to start playing that song again, if they know that enough people want to start hearing it again. Thanks!

P.S. When you write, just keep it simple, don't get all religious on these people...ha. thanks...

Well, what I'm trying to say is...if he's trying to make a message, he kind of ruins his witness with some of his recent work (Katrina comment not included)

I mean...I'm sure you've seen his latest video...All I mean is that when you say something and then contradict yourself later, it would have been better if you hadn't said anything at all.

I think you guys are looking past the point of Shagaro's post.....yeah I totally agree that Kanye West doesn't make for the most stable role model, he's a little bit...all over the map with his moral stands. But I think Shagaro was emphasizing the power of this SONG in particular. Personally, any song whose main point is to remind everyone that Jesus is alive and not dead deserves a lot of airplay!!! Also, if you ever listen to the remix of Jesus Walks featuring Mase, it's really awesome.
Kanye's lyrics in the remix clearly express that he knows he's NOT the perfect example of a Christian:

I ain’t talking to god,
I know what I’ve been doin’ G
Do you know how I be embarrassed?
My prayers sound like Ben Stiller’s on Meet the Parents

And in the original version, where he says "I ain't here to convert atheists into believers" I think many people take that in the wrong way...he knows that it's a personal decision for everyone, and he's there to put the message out there, that Jesus walks, that there is a God, and that this song will make people think. If atheists convert to believers as a result of this song's message, then that'd be amazing, lol, but I think it takes more than one song for someone to make that much of a spiritual change!

We should be grateful for a song like this that is so mainstream and so blatantly emphasizing the fact that Jesus is alive today. Kanye's aim was to get the message out there -- now we can either throw it away, or use it as a powerful tool in reaching non-believers, and in encouraging ourselves in our own lives.

Simply BELIEVING Jesus is alive today is the first step towards following following him...so let's ENCOURAGE those who have taken that step, to take next step, instead of brushing them aside like we all tend to do.

Jenn :)

I don't think 'Jesus Walks' is as mainstream as people think it to be...

Here in Atlanta, arguably the home of hip-hop, I believe I've only heard the song played once, and virtually no one talks about it.

nvm what else was said in this thread....but I don't see how Kanye would racist for what he said.
i don't support what he said...it was wrong timing, a mistake on his part.
but it was not racist, so.......ok...

I agree with you, it wasn't racist at all. I fail to see how commenting on what he believed (in my opinion correctly) to be an act of racism makes him a racist. What I think alot of Americans (not all of course....but from what I've seen) fail to recognize is that race/class are inseperable....the institutionalized and non-institutionalized racism in America throughout its history has led to a much poorer black population, especially in Southern states. So when the poor areas (those without cars, money, etc. to immediately leave NOLA) were trapped, or even died, they were disproportionately black.....I personally think it was a mix of class and race that 1) made it so that a large portion of blacks weren't able to leave 2)Weren't helped as fast as humanely possible.....and were often left to rot in places like the superdome.

I doubt this will be a very popular position, but that's just judging on what I've read on this board (re:alot of support for bush, belief that America is free of most racism, etc)

I think Kanye's comment was extremely inappropriate, especially on national tv. He had no proof or basis for what he said...and if its anyone fault for what happened with Katrina it is the state governments fault....why does everyone blame everything on the Federal government?

Except for an operation led by the federal government (re: Bush) that harmed a disproportionately large amount of blacks.....I'd say that's pretty good proof.

What operation are you exactly talking about? I'm tired of people blaming Bush for everything wrong in the world. He's one man! Just because of one thing that happened suddenly Bush hates black people? Lets just ignore the fact that Condie Rice, a black woman, is one of his most trusted cabinet members. Place some blame on the state government who should be responsible for the welfare of their own state, instead of whining to the feds to pull them out of a mess, and then blaming the feds for not responding fast enough.

Kanye is okay..I got Late Registration and its not a bad CD..not one of the greatest though...but about the TV thing he did...I think he was brave for standing up for his beliefs and speakin what was on his mind..who cares if it was the "right" or "wrong" time? I believe if u feel u gotta say somethin, then speak up and don't be afraid.

and why are people here dissin the "Jesus Walks" song? I thought it was pretty good song..Just because there's swearing in a song doesn't mean it can't have a positive impact..yo it might even lead some dude to christianity...who knows. Anyways thats my 2 cents.
