The first time that I heard that song, Tennessee Ernie Ford sang it.
My father had a deep bass range like Ernie, and sang in the church choir. And many times at home as he went about his handyman projects at home.

I would have enjoyed our family doing that.. my dad and I were the only singers of the family.. so... he sang at home accapela, while I sang with Ernie by records at home in the room by myself or at the church while my parents did their volunteer janitorial work. And when I got older I joined the church choir.I'll go ya one further; I can remember hearing and 'seeing' Ernie sing that back in the 50's;on our old B&W TV; on his original "Tennessee Ernie Ford" show. My whole family would set around and watch him and sing along.![]()
