I'm sorry no one responded to you. I'm not familiar with either Bible. I see they are two very different translations of the Bible. You might want to go somewhere like biblegateway.com and compare a chapter or two from each version and see which you like to read better.

I have a variety of Bibles. I mostly enjoy the Amplified Bible, though. If you enjoy Joyce Meyer, you might enjoy her Amplified Bible which is also a study Bible. I haven't checked it out, but that might be one to consider, too. I noticed it on Christianbook.com recently while looking to replace my very old Amplified Bible.

Why in the WORLD would you bother with "just another Famous name" study bible???

Just GET A BIBLE (doesn't matter which one) AND READ IT!!!! The Holy Spirit's a much better teacher then ANY of the "Modern Luminaries", AND HE's available for questioning - if you REALLY want His wisdom.

CHarles Stanly will give you a nice knowledgible "Baptist Spin" on things, but Osteen doesn't appear to know much about the Bible at all, so wouldn't be my choice, if I bothered with either.

SImple as that.

Not quite so simple as that Bob... What's wrong with getting a good study bible? Do you ever sneak a peak at a Bible commentary once in a while? Come on... be honest! (nobody's watching!)

I checked several of his (yogosans14) posts out and he quotes the Bible quite often throughout his 1500+ posts here on CF. It would be a good guess that he already has one or two bibles. I myself have several "study bibles" that I refer to at times. I don't have Stanley's "Baptist Spin" or Osteen's study bible (didn't know he had one). But my best study bible that I use most has a "Word of Faith" spin. I bet that raised your eyebrows just a fuzz... didn't it?

The study bible I use when I desire to (don'tcha know) is also... "just another Famous name." The official Kenneth Copeland Personal Notes Edition. Imagine that!

You have to sneak in here more often Bob. It's always a pleasure...

Walk in... THE BLESSING

Collect as many study bibles and translations as you can. I have dozens. Joel Osteen will obviously have notes that probably are inspirational and devotional. Charles Stanley would be more doctrinal/pastoral but with a Baptist angle. If you don't already have one, I can recommend the Spirit Filled Life Bible, edited by Jack Hayford. It is a really good study Bible with notes and articles from a variety of charismatic/pentecostal leaders. Very helpful and supportive of our beliefs.

I actually believe both Bibles are very similar. I own each and they are both devotional in content. Stanley's has a few doctrine tidbits here and there.

Welcome GraceWalker... Now that's a very good profile name. Also like your signature on your profile page...

Do you ever sneak a peak at a Bible commentary once in a while?

Sure - the "Blue Letter Bible" has any number of resources back to the original languages, and a veritable plethora of Commentaries - of which I've found the Matthew Henry to be the most valuable (and seemingly the least biased).

But MOSTLY my (at the time) free copy of Parson's technologies "Quickverse" concordance for the KJV is by far and away the most VALUABLE "Tool", since Scripture is the best commentary on Scripture, normally.

And, of course, everytime I go to church, I get a "Commentary" on the Word from the pulpit.
