So, I'm still at school. That only means one thing! Fights! Is it a sin to watch a fight?! I can't go separate the people, because I'd get involved. So I'd get hurt and I'll also be in trouble. But sometimes it's so entertaining. :(
Yeah I think it is sinful to get entertainment out of a fight. The best thing to do is go seek the help of an authority. Teacher, law, whatever.

I used to get entertainment from watching a school yard fight when I was younger because you want to see the drama and who wins the fight. Its still wrong. Its even worse when its a group fighting a single person like 4 against one or some such thing. Get a teacher, your principal or if its not on school grounds, a parent or law enforcement.

There are degrees of the sin. It certainly would be a sin to remain passive if the fight was clearly and maliciously mis-matched. An example would be a few years ago when my friend was attacked by another kid and hurt pretty badly. My friend has walked with a permenant limp for as long as I've known him, and he is generally unhealthy; in other words, he was defenceless. Immediate action in such a case is a moral imperative (and others did step in quickly).

In the case of tempers boiling over in those who are able-bodied, it is not your responsibility to actively stop it; that is the responsibility of someone in authority. It would be immoral to watch the fight for entertainment purposes because of the break-down of order and the danger which the fight poses both to the participates and to the on-lookers, but the degree of sin is not as great by inaction in the latter than in the former.

Watching a street fight and enjoying it is something I would steer clear of. Now I do love boxing and always have; and I do not belive it is sinful. Paul the Apostle even used the boxer as an anaology on how to prepare yourself in the fight against the flesh.

I also love martial arts, but I hate the UFC MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) I just find it in poor taste.

I would steer clear of the street fights, and also steer clear of the advice of stepping in. It is the easiest way to die. I have seen it with my own eyes.

Simply walk away, or if you feel someone is in danger, seek help.

I don't know, maybe I'm a Sadist but one of my favorite parts of school was watching fights.

instigating them was more fun.

I went to prep school run by one of your teaching orders (Servants of Mary) and they came down hard on the occasional fight. so one day there's a crowd of boys, yelling "fight fight fight", egging on the combatants, and the priests come wading through, ready to break it up, send the fighters off to detention, only to find a chess game in progress.

Prep school pffft. You boys never saw a real fight.

Inner-city public school, whoop whoop! You know you've seen some real school fights when afterword the schools on lockdown for "gang related violence."

You know Andrew...manliness does not equate with violence. You really do seem to be attracted to things that you equate with masculinity. Sorry to say, most of it is far from it.

I know? Can I not share stories of my HS experience? I'm sorry it was different from yours.

Ok?

Andrew... I like you. But seriously.... I'm just giving my observations from most of your posts.

You seem to glamourize the tough guy like little girls glamourize Barbies or Bratz dolls.

What I'm saying is that whooping it up over inner city school fights is giving the wrong impression. A lot of them end tragically. As a Catholic, that just seems wrong to me.

Just giving my impression... :sorry:

Arius getting smacked was righteous. John Chrysostom even said to justify your right hand by smashing the face of a blasphemer. But a fight for the hell of it? Public school beatdowns? That's wrong. Fighting comes along by way of anger, and wrath is sinful, no way around that.

I just can't see why anyone would want to inspire violence against someone.

I'd say, after a certain age, a man's got to have treasured stories of humility and turning the other cheek. A boy has treasured stories of kicking someones ass.

Forgive me. This is just my conviction.
