Is touching yourself a sin?

First of all, Lust is a sin... Masturbation is an offspring of that lust. So therefore if that is the truth, then yes, masturbation is a sin.

Also, even if a man/woman is married, masturbation is a sin because instead of pleasuring your husband/wife, you pleasure yourself. I'm not sure about the case of "what if something's wrong with my spouse and we can't have sex?"

For so long people have blinded scriptures about these things referring to them as "normal, natural, and safe". While it may be safe... it's neither normal nor natural because of self pleasure, lust, and the word of God speaks out against those things.

If you have an addiction towards these things, contact a person of the same sex who is a Christian and talk to them, pray feverently and have your Christian friends pray with you also. Know that masturbation can also be a stronghold and bondage. Shut the door in Satan's face. It's not an easy thing to quit because addictions never are... but remember "Greater is He in me, than he that is in the world."

The short answer is:

NO.

But, treat with care; it can encourage pondering on the wrong thoughts, and can become obsessive, (which also applies to a lot of other things which are not sinful in themselves.)

If you were asking Jesus this question, How would he answer? REPENT from the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and pride of Life and follow me.
:amen: Remember if you're a Christian, you're no longer a slave to sin. ;) Christ paid that debt for you.

Amen, Christian Dude. If you aren't married then masturbation ruins your sexual purity. If you are married, then masturbation constitutes infidelity.

This was one of my "favorite" sins, and yet with the help of God after the death of my husband when it would have been most "natural" to do so, I have not in nearly 4 years. Free at last!

Some people say yes, others no. As has been said, if you touch with a particular man/woman in mind then isn't that equal to adultery according to

Mt 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
But what if you just touch about love/sex in general without a particular person in mind?

As has been said, WWJD - I can't see Jesus doing that.

What do you think about something that I thought a couple of weeks ago....

Matthew 5:27 "You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Jesus was talking about adultery / sex / marriage. At first He talked about the heart and adultery. Then about the eye being sinful, then about the hand! Could this be a reference to masturbation  I've not heard it used in that context before but it all appears in the same text, so in context it could be a reference to masturbation!

The right hand is used for a lot more than that surely? Otherwise you really DO have a problem!

I don't think it means that at all. probably a general warning that we are so sinful that we're at risk of wrongdoing just by everyday activities if we don't watch out.

Okay.... So let's say my wife has gone away on one of her teacher training courses. She's been away for a couple of days and I'm missing her. Would it be wrong for me to touch whilst thinking of my wife? What about performing the act as part of the love making between both my wife and I? (in other words she is present whilst the act is being carried out). Is this still sinful?

Sorry to be so explicit, I just wanted to clarify a couple of grey areas....

I would say so because that is self-pleasure and when you're married God wants you to give pleasure to your wife, and for her to do the same to you.

But the point is I'm not married, so I wouldn't know much about that aspect of it.

I guess I dont get why this is even a question. Masturbation is a sin because your thought process is part of the act and Jesus clearly talks about that.
I figure that this only comes up as a question so maybe to justify the sin in someone's mind.

If this is a problem or other sexual sins I suggest "Every Man's Battle" is a must read. Sexual purification is something that every man has to work at every day that is the part of which God calls us to be holy and righteous.
