Is the temple institute for real? Are they planning the third temple?

Are they an eccentric museum / historical research type entity, or something more ?
Are they invested in the building of the third temple ?
If they are, so what ?
Can they be taken seriously ?
Or is just "hopeful thinking" on their part ?

Based on some things they say, it seems they want to re-build either the first or the second temple, as opposed to building the third as described in Ezekiel.

But that could be indicating different things at different times.

I get the sense they kind of don't care if it is a rebuilt Solomonic or Ezraic temple or if it is a Third Temple as described in Ezekiel.

Yeah ok.

But is the temple institute for real ?
Do they have any clout or authority or connecton to the Israeli govt ?
Are their hints at building the third temple to be taken seriously, or not ?

I'd take them seriously (as I'd like to avoid an expansion of WWIII) but I'd be very surprised if they got their way before He comes to judge the world. I often suspect that hideous mosque has been placed there on purpose. Allowed by God to remain there for the same reason that the scarlet thread stopped changing color.

However, if your personal theology is right then none of this makes sense to me and we should wait for the real Messiah to come and rebuild the Temple himself.

I have in the last few years regarded Ezekiel's Temple to be symbolic due to geographical and other impossibilities. I believe it's a teaching on how God would view the rebuilt Temple after the exile. But of course everyone here thinks that's just impossible because I am a moron.

the sukka/ 'shadow of his wings' or
pillars of fire -clouds bows and trumpets when walls of Jericho fall down.

They are not the only group. The "Temple Mount Faithful" have been making the various utensils needed for restored Temple worship. (like the bronze altar, the golden menorah, etc.) The 2nd Intifada was started when they tried to ascend the Temple Mount to lay the corner stone for the new building. They have been turned away several times since then.

Another group has been working hard to get a true halachic Red Heifer to cleanse and dedicate a new Temple, and another group has been training Cohenim and Levites to do the Temple services.
