I guess that would depend if you actually do have an intercessor gift to pray for people, to "trevail" as you've said or if you are just praying for others. I don't know though..maybe it depends if you have a relationship with the person you are praying for and/ if you have a history with them? Not sure here.

When praying in intercession once for a young girl, that didn't want to live any longer, that had become suicidal, it was like I had passed through their blackness, despair, their hopeless state, and prayed through to her healing and salvation. I think this happens sometimes when we experiance the compassion of the Lord.

I've had experiences similar to riverpastor and Trish. While on a ministry trip to Guatemala, we were praying for the people in one small village. I knew no Spanish, so I had to rely on the Holy Spirit to direct me in prayer. While praying for one young mom, I had a piercing pain in my chest. All I knew was I had to pray for a healing in her lungs. Later a translator came by and told me the woman had pneumonia.
It was a humbling, enriching experience.

That is awesome. And I was thinking "pain in the neck", "pain in the behind", etc--what a jokester! :sorry: We are blessed when we place others first through intercession. I repent, old man!

That just happened to me on Tuesday, God told me to stop what I was doing and pray in the Spirit for my brother in-law. When I was praying I had such an amazing ache in my heart, a gut wrenching feeling in the pit of my stomach that it took my breath away. I could feel something BIG was happening in the Spirit realm. At that moment, it turns out God gave him (my brother in-law) a dream telling him that God was working on my sister, and that she was striving to be a Godly wife. The next morning he started to read the Bible and he is seriously contemplating accepting Jesus. He is scared but the desire is there, so PRAISE GOD!! Intercessory prayer is a powerful thing.

Everyone experience physical pain while in heavy intercession??
No but one time during a youth service at the Civic Center I was worhispping and felt moved to kneel. I tried to just keep worhsipping without kneeling but couldn't focus on anything but the fact that I ought to be kneeling then the Youth Director said to woship any way that you wanted to (like I needed his permission in the first place) so I knelt. As soon as my knees hit the floor I instantly had a horrible headache. As soon as I stood back up it was gone. For about a week or so every single time I knelt to pray at home I had the same headache every time. I don't know what the significance was though. Any thought?

I have read all the posts in this thread and am curious. Can anyone show me from scripture where anything that you all have experienced is validated? Thank you

What about Jesus praying so hard that he sweat droplets of blood in the garden. Science says that that is a result of extreme stress...and something tells me he wasn't just praying prayers for himself... I think that that would definately qualify as intercessary prayer.

Epaphras is always wrestling in his prayers on your behalf so that you may stand mature and fully assured of everything htat God wills. (Colossians 4:12) (NRSV)

laboring fervently in prayers (NKJV)

To those who are called to pray for the church,
It is God's will that we pray in the Spirit. Let us encourage one another to pray diligently. Some labor proclaiming the gospel of Jesus, some by becoming a leaning shoulder for weak believers. But laboring in prayers is our share. Let us accept this calling with thanksgiving and praise. I enter your names in my prayer book. Also, remember me in your prayers.

Brother Hungree:
You knelt to pray and worship, but the headache stopped you. I suggest that you petition to the Lord to remove the headache so that you can pray and worship, for the inner urge came from above.

I personally haven't felt pain, but I know those who have. I have felt a pushing 'urge' similar to giving birth before on some occasions. The first time it happened was before I had heard of other people having it (when i was first saved) so it wasn't like a copy-cat kind of thing. As far as validation, I would think the proof was in the pudding.

This is what happens to me when I am praying for others. especially when God lays them on my heart in particular...

I have a sis-in-law who spends a huge amount of time in intercessary prayer for healing, and she gets pain like what that person is feeling. Once she even went to emergency while praying for someone who God put on her heart - who was later found to have been having a heart attack. (she was fine, of course)
