Is it okay to write in your Bible?

I have seen many people underline and highlight verses in their Bibles. Is this okay? How many people here write in their Bibles?
Of course it is. It's your Bible. It's not the book itself that is Holy, it's the content of it. Feel free to underline, highlight and write as many notes as you feel the Spirit move you to. :)

So long as it is your bible and not a church bible or oneyou've borrowed then yes you can write in it.

Sounds like defacing the Holy Word of God to me! I say leave the Holy books alone.....until the Word is hidden in your Heart and becomes alive......then, the books wont mean as much and you can highlight as much as you desire.

I like to see Bibles that are used a lot. Most times Bibles that are used a lot have page edges looking frayed and many times key verses are underlined or highlighted. I've seen many Bibles with the "Roman Road" highlighted and verses are numbered in order of being shared with others.

The Holy Spirit knows what's in the Book. He wants us to share the contents with others.

Those who think that marking a Bible is defacing the Bible, how do you feel about the Scriptures being shared at this forum in digital format? We typically highlight only certain passages that relate to a particular context.

I currently use a Bible app. To be honest, I was never a fan of marking up the Bible personally, although I know quite a few people who do it and I have no quarrel with their spiritual maturity or walk of faith.

I think it's simply personal preference.

Your own copy of the Bible should be marked up.
Like when you are reading a passage and you get some really good insight on that verse that you would not like to forget.
Highlighting verses makes them easier to find later.
Not all of us are walking bibles or have a bible app.

Yes, I agree. I've never been comfortable marking up God's Word and rather, use a notebook on the side to write things as needed. Also, writing things down can help to remember better instead of highlighting, circling or underlining.

I used to. It became difficult to read. So I started putting little asterisks to mark something important. Peace in Christ :).

Having accepted Christ in 1967 I have marked up quite a few Bibles. I do always have a "clean" one to read though, because as humans we tend to have habits and that includes thinking the same thing about (a verse) in the same way all the time. If we always have notes, we will always apply them.

We do not worship the paper and ink. We worship the GOD Who Spoke those Words for our edification, knowledge, and wisdom. We need them written down (and notes too) because we are so human. ;)

Not enough room for me...use a notebook, sticky notes or OneNote app for note taking, verses, inspirational moments, Bible research notes etc.
My Bibles has lots of sticky notes, notes written on scraps of paper etc.

I used to highlight things in my Bible but found that over time when I was reading, my eyes would be drawn specifically to what I had highlighted. Now my Bible is unmarked and I find that I can concentrate on what I am reading unhindered. But that is just me.

Now upon thinking I used to do this in Christian books and exactly the same thing would happen so it took away the flow of reading.
Funny, prior to all this I would never dream of marking any book!

Yes, I tend to make separate notes rather than mark the page itself.

I was joking in my statement.......God's word is not a book of letters and words to me.

Marking is only an issue if it is not your own property. We must be careful not to elevate anything above God.

I don't do it often, but yes sometimes. Sure. Obviously you write good things, but sure.

Our Bibles are not like the original scrolls or something. You don't need to keep them locked up in a vault to protect for future generations.

You should still be mindful, because it is G-d's word to you. So respect it. But you can write in it.
