Sorry if this isn't in the right forum.
I was just browsing through amazon in hopes of buying my niece an early birthday gift when I found a crescent moon with a star necklace. I know how much she loves stars, so I thought it would be perfect for her. The problem is, is that I don't know what the symbol means. Does it represent anything evil like witchcraft?? I don't want to spend my money on something that could be considered evil. When I was a teen, I was into witchcraft and devil worship. But thank God that's over with. I just don't want the devil to trick me into buying something that reminds me of my past. What are your opinions on the necklace? Does the symbol mean anything?

It's (the crescent moon and star) an Islamic symbol... many Muslims get it tattooed because it's largely seen as "Islamic" (although really it began as a symbol of the Ottoman empire back when the empire was Islamic) but today is used as an identifier for Muslim owned businesses (in western countries) etc. or Muslims in general (hence why a tattoo is more common in Muslim youth).

If your Christian, I wouldn't really recommend buying it for a Christian to wear - even though there is some dissent on its use as an Islamic symbol within different Muslim communities - because it's largely accepted as a symbol of Islam.

Symbols are symbols because humans give them meaning.

There are no inherently evil or inherently good symbols. A geometric shape is only a geometric shape. A circle is only a circle, a polygon is only a polygon. It is the use of shapes for specific purposes that gives meaning.

A simple cross is just two intersecting perpendicular lines, but in Christianity a cross has meaning as, it's a major symbol of our faith, it represents the instrument on which Jesus Christ suffered and died, and thus was the means by which God reconciles the world to Himself.

So it's important here to understand that the devil doesn't own shapes.

As for a crescent and star, meaning can vary. A crescent and star can just be a crescent and star, the design simply supposed to be pretty. The crescent, with also a star, is today also a common symbol of the Muslim religion, this is because the crescent and star was used as an insignia for the Ottoman Empire--though in fact the Ottomans took the crescent and star from the Byzantine Empire. I bring up that history just for the sake of being informative, but it also highlights how the meaning of symbols change depending on who is using them and for what reason.

My guess, however, is that the crescent moon and star necklace you found is just supposed to be pretty. And "just pretty" is perfectly fine. And you shouldn't feel afraid.

It may depend on the arrangement of the crescent and the star(s). if there are a lot of each or either of them, you could probably justify it, but in the proper (Muslim) arrangement, probably not.

Aren't there many other pieces of jewelry that feature stars and/or moons for you to choose among??
