The reason I ask is that one of my ex-boyfriends found out that french kissing is a mortal sin at a chastity talk. He told me that we may not be able to kiss ever again if God didn't approve. At the time it was really hurtful and I wasn't sure how to deal with it. Eventually, after talking to our youth minister, he found out that it is only bad if that is all you are getting together to do.

My question is, is this true? Is french kissing a mortal sin? The man who gave the talk said that you need to save it for your wedding day. I just don't understand why this would be viewed as so bad. Please explain.

The only thing God ever deems strictly as sin when outside of marriage is sex. Kissing is only really bad outside of a committed relationship. Some people set boundaries that stop at cuddling and say no kissing but I don't think it's required. It's just not suggested.

Thanks for the feedback, but why is it not suggested? To me, one component of a committed relationship is a physical one. Kissing is a sign of whether or not you are physically compatible, in my opinion. So why is it so bad?

I don't see how it would be a sin -- nothing in the Bible forbids it. However I think French kissing should only be limited to two people in a committed relationship. I certainly wouldn't want to be French kissing someone I just met!

It's mostly of a safety thing. The idea of kissing may give way to moving "further" in the relationship. For some people this isn't a problem. It's mostly suggested for younger teenagers.

This is one of the things that I really have to engage brain for on the web - for me, as a French speaking Brit, French Kissing is bissou, so a kiss on each cheek as a greeting between friends. First time I met it on a Forum, it took me a long time to realise it meant something different lol

Sounds like something someone made up to scare your boyfriend. I have never heard of kissing being a mortal sin.

There are those that would argue that french kissing is sinful because it could lead to sex. However by that logic, I shouldnt get out of bed in the morning, because it might lead to sex

Ok, seriously now. Your ex-boyfriend needs to be more careful not to listen to crazy people. Any idiot can wave a bible around and claim to be speaking the word of God. Y'all need to use your own reason a little more, and listen to whatever some jerk is saying a little less.

See, I would think it was a joke, but it was a formal talk. The speaker has written a number of books and travels around the country giving talks about chastity, so this is obviously something serious enough for him to have mentioned in his talk and to have a whole section on in his book.

And in the book it does mention that kissing ignites a fire in a man that cannot be put out until it is satisfied, which I personally don't agree with...

So, you're not allowed to have fun when you kiss your significant other? The only time it is okay is when everyone is bored or something?

He was being sarcastic.

There's nothing in the Bible saying no frenching is allowed. However, if you find that it's only frustrating you sexually it might not be the wisest thing to do. I don't tend to allow myself to engage in such activities until I really like a guy, because french kissing is one of those things that really, really gets me going. Once it happens that's it, I'm grabbing at the guy and climbing into his lap.

That's the thing about it, it's much deeper than a regular kiss and can sometimes signal a change in mood, causing a harmless, affectionate smooching session to shift gears into "Let's get it on" mode.

Well we had been dating for 4 months already and I had to ask him what was going on. Also, when it came to just normal kissing, he didn't want to at first because he thought it would ruin the evening... I wasn't sure how to deal with that...

And I'm sorry about the sarcastic thing...I'm usually good at picking it up, but I haven't been on in a couple months so I'm getting back into the swing of things

*looks utterly blank* I think I'm just totally unqualified to participate in this thread.

All I can say is that I find any book highly suspicious that makes mention of an uncontrollable sexual urge being aroused in men (and men alone) when they engage in French kissing. Frankly, if your boyfriend is the sort of man who is so aroused by kissing that he simply can't help but throw caution to the wind and tear your clothes off on the spot, I'd avoid being alone in the same room with him, let alone kissing him. To the best of my knowledge, most men who have any respect for women are perfectly capable of refraining from having wild, passionate sex after kissing. I would take the comments of anyone who tells you otherwise with a large pinch of salt.
