Is anybody familiar with the Stevens 325B or Savage 325 Series .30-30?

I have a Stevens 325B (would like to discuss the particulars with anybody interested) which I want to put a scope on. I have the mount for it so I need to drill and tap the four screw holes on the side of the receiver. As anybody done this on this particular rifle? Aside from the usual "watch out for...." is there anything else I need to be careful of? (I'm pretty sure the 325B and later Savage Models have the same receivers.)

Yes, It has the butter knife bolt. When Savage took it over they changed it to the bolt with knob standard. It was developed by Stevens to use up the .30 caliber machine gun barrels left over after WWII and give returning GI's an inexpensive hunting rifle. I think it was for sale for around 32.00 - 39.00 at the time. If you look at that reciever you can tell it is heavy duty, quality. No slop or wobble in the bolt.

I had one back in the day, got it cheap. It was OK but didn't hold as many shots as a Model 94 and certainly wasn't easier/better handling either. Still wish I had it back though.

I have to admit I bought mine as part of a prepping plan to have a firearm for each of the major calibers in the US without spending a fortune. I was at the .30-30 stage of the plan but the lever action rifles just did not fit my budget. I happened across this one and just really liked it and it was within my price range AND it was in great shape. Looked almost brand new and the action was like butter. So now I have a .30-30 with a magazine in which I can grab a handful out of a box, or I can hand-load spire pointed .30 cal bullets if that is all I have without worrying about setting them off in the tube. Now, a year later than this original post, I have my Marlin 336 with a JM barrel and still have my Stevens 325B with butter knife bolt and a .30 caliber machine gun barrel. Can't bring myself to sell it or give it away to a family member.

You can turn a 30-30 into a 250 yard deer rifle now days with those pointed bullets.
I always will love the feel of the pre 64 style 30-30. Killed my fist yearling doe with one as a kid and I thought I was something lol. I couldn't have been happier if it had been a 12 point buck. I never got over how good that ole gun felt in my hands and how it shouldered. We always used 170 grain bullets in it and I remember all the kids started on this gun and whenever we needed a brushbuster for deer drives, This is what we grabbed. I remember the same box of shells that sat on the gun rack in grandpas living room. A red box of Winchester 170 grain lead nose.

On that gun rack hung a Rem 742 3006, a Mod 12 Win 12 gauge,[ That i remember kicked like a mule as a kid] a pre 64 win 30-30 and a win mod 77 22lr. Also hanging on the side a luger 9mm that grandpa took from an officer in the german war.
Those guns counted for a lot of game and many memories.

Although I do not have one, a friend does. His father-in-law purchased it and had the scope mount put on. It has 4 screws and goes on the side of the reciever ... This was done back in the late 1940's ... surprisingly well done ... After nearly 70 years we took the cope mount apart and it is in surprisingly great shape.
